I've been working on a necro alt, to later be switched over to be my perm mage. So I figured, I wasn't attempting to break any records, so I've been toying around some. Now that my alt is near the time to leave necros, I'll share some of my ideas and opinions...
Revenant of Illarin sucks. Revenant of the restful-looking guard is highly overrated. Revenant of Imam is radical. Silver rapier/stick sucks. VFR/stick is neato. Elven foil/stick is really neato. Shortsword on a necro is pretty swell. Stick/arrow is a good no-cost combo tat does pretty good dmg. And finally, it's oh so much fun to walk past a pathetic mageling, and clear the room containing his/her CK and NPCs, especially when it's Spock and sage has gammy and brobe and he walks in and yells STOP MY KILL, then leaves, without throwing one acid arrow at the sage. Silly CK mages. Learn to kill.

*hirr hirr* yepp it can be fun time to time to grab a ck kill and i agree with u that resty is overrated, yes the +1str is nice but ick it can be risky every once in a while to kill that sucker, u might hit a heal alias to slow or your isp lag then u are goin to have a ruff fight against him so i rather grab my linnhe and then if i feel for it i do iannis in run and change corpse in the middle but i'm satisfied with linnhe as rev

I plan to try out Steel Greatsword, which I believe may have the best damage out of the two-handed swords (for non-elves/undead), and has splendid parry, which will come in handy for the occasional tanking. I also plan to test out the damage between it and Two-Handed Powersword (which has nearly perfect parry). You just never know with these Greater-Than Average damage weapons; I have my money on Steel Greatsword.
Have him lug around a fire-orb and switch to that for the frost giants.
I'll try to include patriarch for Crosier or Master Flame for Cap in a kill-circle, so I can switch to lich the first chance I get.

Wow, this is kinda neat..... last note, May 17 2003.......... Ya like re-opening the 5 year dead threads, eh? It's funny how almost no info in a 5 year old thread when it pertains to weapons, skills, etc. is still valid today. Annnnyways... to answer your question about how damaging the steel greatsword is... Any time you see Calvin playing... check his inventory. If I'm not wielding the chain staff, Krakadoom, or maybe dual orbs..... odds are, I've got a steel greatsword.

Alrighty, well that's good enough reason right there.
And yes, I knowingly partook in thread necromancy, by reanimating this one. I just didn't want to create a new topic about the same thing.

nobody use shadow sword anymore? I attempted to use it as a Basher the other week, and was discouraged from it in favor of Steel Greatsword, by my tank at the time...

I've compared the two, just using them in a party bashing, and paying attention to how much I hit... and after 15-20 minutes with each, the steel greatsword seemed to do more damage. Never did an actual comparison test (100 rounds on a nekkid player with shadow, log the damage, then 100 rounds with steel greatsword, log the damage, add it all up, get actual hard numbers, etc...) But it sure looked like it did more damage. And using steel greatsword on Calvin, in fury mode at lvl 32... it does some sick damage.

Crescent gets a lot of attention, but would you say it's not as good as Steel Greatsword? I guess Crescent is especially awesome for those who can barely wield it (Helf Rangers), and that's probably why it's so popular.

*shrug* Both steel greatsword and crescent eval as extremely difficult..... both are 2 handed... both are 6 weight... the greatsword is splendid parry, crescent is serviceable... so you'll disarm a hell of a lot better with greatsword... but other than that, you'd have to be a wizzie to check the code and stats to tell what the exact WC is on both weaps, or do a thorough test on damage on an another player to figure out which one actually does more damage...
Outstanding sword as a ls is ex skilled, 6 weight... but it's 1handed, so.... I'd bet on steel greatsword doing more damage.... Shadow sword's only 5 weight, so that might explain why it seems like steel greatsword does better. *shrug* Like I said, you'd really have to do actual damage tests on each weap and compare em.
