i agree, dual sucks for dmg most of the times... but it rocks for skillin, so i say... only dual if the party is about skillin or the tank tell u to dual *peer at sky* when i tank i mostly don't care what skill u raise or use, just do dmg and carry eq/heals for me

if you should decide to dual_wield here is a list of weapons to use.. it isn't perfect and there are always other options. But it does give you a base to build on. anguish.b0x.com/dual_wield.html/

actually, there are quite a few combos i really liked when i was dualing with riske:
axe: dwarven pick & worthless pick cblade: katana/orcish sabre & snicker flail: mstar & ranger made whip mms: crossbow & some piercing wep (xbow does nice disarms) staff: carved & strong branch
i know i'm forgetting some but i've only had one pot of coffee and it's 8 in the frickin' morning. *shudder

Just messed around with them the other night, and I can say that dual bolas definitely skill much faster than shackles. Raised flail from 93-96 in no time at all. Not too terrible damage but not that great either. Also, dual vines from the ill-tempered squash are lower skill and dual better than shackles.
Note. Until fixed, it seems there is a bug with wielding a bola in left hand, once you're done with that, you have to quit out before you can use something else in the left hand, even if you have unwielded and/or dropped the bola.

some stuff to think of when choosin wpns to dual with... use light wpns and low parry ability on the wpn makes it even easier to dual with

My personal preferences for dual wielding...
** Axe -- 20-80 dual worthless pick. 80+ dwarvish mining pick/worthless pick or choppingweapon/worthless pick ** Club -- 20-80 dual stylish cane. 80+ moc/cane, warclub/cane, or large wooden club/cane. ** Curbed Blade -- 20-80 dual snickersnees. 80+ orcish sabre/snickersnee or dual snickers. I don't like katana or falchion dualed. ** Exotic -- 20-50 dual shards of rock. 50-80 paper fan/weeding hook. 80+ dual hooks ** Flail -- 20-80 dual shackles. 80+ ball and chain/shackles or mstar/ranger-made whip ** Knife -- 20-40 dual rusty daggers. 40-80 dual spirit knife. 80+ stoney/spirit ** Longsword -- imo, doesn't dual well enough. ** Marksmanship -- doesn't dual. ** Polarm -- doesn't dual well. ** Rapier -- 20-80 dual sticks. 80+ gilian/stick, jdr/stick, vfr/stick, or cblade/stick. ** Shortsword -- 20-80 dual wooden swords (ex. easy ones from inside of Knight's arena, not the outside guard's v. easy or elf patrol's v. easy ones). 80+ wolfblade (no gem)/wooden sword or slim sword/wooden sword ** Spear -- 20-100 dual flint arrows. I didn't like any spear/arrow combo. Never tried new barbed spear/spear tho. Not sure if barbed spear is 1 or 2h even. ** Staff -- 20-100 dual branch. I didn't like dualing carved, white iron, or any other staff with a branch. Possibly pine/branch would hit hard, tho.

With the exception of club, it seems to work better to wait until 30 to start dualing.
But hey, what do I know about skilling.

It all depends. elf or helf duals like a madman at 20 on up. Human and orc dual decently 20 and up. Dwarf, tho... lack of dex means lack of dual wield hitting chance. I've said it once, and I'll say it again. Dex is the most important combat-stat. Strength does the damage, of course, but... YOU HAVE TO BE ABLE TO HIT TO DO DAMAGE. Hence, dex > str.
Generally, if you're dwarf, waitl til 30 to dual with anything. If you're non-dwarf wait til 20 to dual, and make sure you've got 16 dex, or so. L5 dualing sticks is gonna be miserable. L19 dualing sticks will poke alotta holes in stuff, all because of the dex differecne.

The way Calvin did it... sword of virgis+dark ls... the +15 to your ls skill (if you're a female) should be enough to make it useful...
Flails - dual shackles to some skill like 50 or so, then use mstar+ranger whip
Club - 2 canes from woolcrofts, then use hjem+cane
Curved blade - dual snickersnees all the way, if you can get a katana, dual that with a snickersnee. I've heard that cos's long katana+snickersnee isn't bad for damage either
rapier - dual darts (or sticks *pat annihilator*), then at about 50 or 60ish skill, dual cblade+stick or gilian+stick
Poleaxe, 2hs, 2ha - don't bother dualing, its just not worth it. plus the skills raise fast enough anyway
MMS - yah, xbow+knife or if you really want, you could grab bow/arrow and raise staff/mms that way.
exotic - dual shurikens, then dual boomers, or just grab a padded grapple (they're 2h)
axe - dual pickaxes from scythe tunnels.
Shortsword - dual wooden swords or whatever they are from knigget training arena..
spear - dual arrows all the way
staff - dual strong branches
knife - dual spirit knives at first, then dual sais or stone daggers at about 50ish skill. Heard sais were better for damage cuz they're lighter...
Unarmed - ...Right.
