There's always the "Fighter to 19 then switch" method, but that feels dirty to me *mgrin*. It's up to you of course.
Personally, I like to follow this method (Mostly taught by Boromir to one of my young paladins). I'm not an expert by any means on this mud, but paladin was my first class played, and I've always enjoyed playing them, regardless of how much a pain people think they are. Anyway:
Raise levels/gain exp by running CX up to level 3. After you peak 3000 coins and they stop letting you run for that game day, get a head start on your missions and run a few missions. At level 1-2 using dark ls probably isn't worth the effort. You can also run some Balan.
At level 3 (Or 4 if you want to get a little extra accuracy security) Grab that dark ls and start cutting away at the ship's zombies (I find that newbie manor doesn't exp/skill too well, might just be me).
Work in the ship up to level 10. If you're feeling audacious, or if you have a bigger player willing to let you tag, by all means do so. (At level 8 you can cure, with a good enough alignment some tanks might appreciate it.)
At level 10, you can try riding your horse and hunting stuff in the wilderness, fighting at orc gardens/dalair/fortress. If you're going LS, don't neglect a shield and turtle, it helps unimaginably. If you're going polearm... well, maybe you should save that for later when you can skill behind a tank/throw out cures.
Basically, as you level, your options grow a little more. Try to fight things that you can take on toe to toe, until you get harm. With harm, obviously, you can take on undead. I suggest Chaos Tower. Again, see if you can stay toe-to-toe with your kills instead of hit and runs (Unless you prefer to play that way).
With harm, it's only 3 levels to smite.
Not that specific, I know, but it might help some people (Might not too). Anybody have any opinions on raising paladins?

hmm dex is a lvl 1-19 pally the pally missions i didn't really find a pain ..they just slow down levels a bit ... this is how i did it i think ... 1-4 | just bumming around newbie manor zhouing longsword and/or ss/pa 4-10 | smacking up spirit's in the Haunted ship getting money and skills 10-14 | for me i was a slack arse and just tagged .. 14-17 | just bashed my way up in partys 17-19 | this is where i started tanking and doing some major bashing .. for starting pallys i'd say raise longsword first ...quite good at dealing damage and for pallys most of the time i hit the skill limit per level thingy meh just my thoughts

lvl 14+, HARM, HARM, HARM the shit out of everything !
Last 2 paladins I raised I skipped stats from about lvl 11-12 to 14... just to be able to HARM, HARM, HARM the (um.. can I even say shiet?) out of everything.
I maxed my 4 paladins (ok, one only at 18) by doing missions. It sucks and are a pain, but changing at lvl 19 and you won't have raised one. (and besides, you can just kill ogres instead of missions)

If ever I get to 500, I'm thinking about raising a dwarf or human paladin or orc fighter so I can tag behind Calvin as he teaches me the ropes and other things lovers do *cough* I mean...
Anyway, is there any suggestion on whether I should go fighter or paladin or are both just as fun as the other? Since I only get one alt to unfreeze, I obviously can't do both until 600 or demotion.
Also, I have only ever gotten a paladin up to 6 before stopping from boredom (Nepeth training grounds + missions got old quick), and I had a fighter up to 9 before I got bored with him.
But this time around I think I'll go for it, since I've already done most of the other classes. Rogue to 19 twice, necro to ~19 twice, mage to 14, ranger to ~19 twice and a shifter at 16. Fighter, Paladin, and Cleric are about the only classes I've shied away from because of their playing style. Also, I've mostly had elves and half-elves, and I'd be more inclined to play a meatier race this time around, I think.
So my choices are: Orc (Human?) Fighter, Dwarf or Human Paladin, or Half-elf or Dwarf Cleric.
If I make two clerics eventually, I'll do one of each, but if just one, then perhaps dwarf. I'm getting tired of getting MY ARSE kicked: "tell mortus deaths of blain" (elf mage/necro)

Funny, paladin, fighter, and shifter seem to be the only classes I've ever had patience for... Although now necro, rogue are really starting to feel fun. I also have a dwarf cleric I just started, but I think I'll switch him to ranger. Anyway, Dwarf pally gets 90 block at the end So I guess he's your all purpose solor/tanker/basher. Edit: Er, sorry, Dwarf FIGHTERS get 90 block. Elf paladins get the highest block of pallys, followed by Orc pallys...

dwarf pally gets 77 block. turtle bonus usually pushes me over 130. it makes up for any lack of dex.

So dwarf pally. *jots that down* What should I name him? =)~ I have Karn the dwarf cleric L6. Maybe I'll restart him as a pally. Of course, I need to get my 500, so you guys can all nicely bug Galt so he'll approve my world info. *twiddle* One thing I wanted to ask, especially of Lunger, is a basic list of do's and don't's on levelling 1-19 very fast. My fastest time was Elf Ranger 1-19 in 3d with one death by bounty at 13 (my tank decided to attack a pally horse and I naughtily assisted). I've heard of people doing it in a day and such, and I'd like to figure out what I do wrong. I generally tend to do 1-10 in 10 hours with CX, newbie forest, haunted ship, and fairy ring. Beyond 10 depends on the class, though. On another note, I'm thinking of at least doing LS to 100 before worrying about anything else. After that, I may do polearm, and if I still have more patience, I may try a little two weapon or something I've never tried before on other alts. Coder's Hint: I'm pondering a full set of magic-imbued platemail reminiscent of D&D, though I haven't an area idea behind it yet. Shh. --Aurac

Just a few quick tips for Pally madness.
When you are the skill point for using Silver Longsword, make use of it and hit the Rio area. There are some zombies in there that are good for skills and exp.
Using Aura/Turtle in Harkke makes for quick cash/exp/skills.
While throwing harms at Razar at lvl 14 may sound fun, not a good idea. (unless you are lunger)
Osword + Dwarf Pally = Win
Umm yeah.. if nobody else posts a speed-leveling guide I'll throw one at you. But Paladins aren't my speciality. Fastest Pally to a Mill - 22 hours.

i play most classes the same and kill the same things execpt for necro.. heh
but i did peblo in like 12h to lvl 19 with maxxed stats other classes i mostly do all from 20h-1d
just learn what kills are somewhat effy and the different lvls so u get the most of 'em exp wise and profit wise so u can keep on killing
low lvls .... cx couple times, balan quest now and then... then hit dalair, fairyring, haunted ship, ravel as much as u can.. then when u feel a bit stronger... go orc garden, waterfall, neville, palatial estates, brigands fortress and so on and so on

Dwarf Pally might be my next char too. The STR probably means I hit very VERY hard...

Sure, the str means you hit HARD, but the dex means you don't hit And fighting razar at lvl 14 (with the same stats you had at lvl 11) is fun.
