I was hoping to get a consensus on some of the "newer" weapons and dual wielding and whether or not skills like spear, shortsword and axe are viable now if the ranger was to dual wield something like butterfly axes or halfspears or whatever the shortsword equivalent is. I know that, most likely, you would end up doing a little less top end damage than you might with weapons like Crescent, but I haven't bothered to raise two weapon with any characters yet and I would like my ranger to use something other than the longsword that my rogue and paladin use, the club my 'ficer uses and the 2ha I already had pretty high on my ranger once before. It's time for some variety!
So at the higher skills would you say a dual axe/shortsword/spear wielding ranger would be doing the same/slightly less/less/or terrible damage in comparison to one wielding Crescent?
I don't play enough to raise two weapon to just raise two weapon for the hell of it, and I'm not terribly interested in raising exotic to use orbs.
Some input would be fantastic.

Some personal opinions coming.. I personally hate axe in general, theres too little decent axes, and decent is crap. Spear is lovely, topend 2handed ones are beastly with about 80 spear or so, ficer pikes kick ass. And of course theres the halfspears... Shortswords are ok but the problem with them is there isn't really many highend weapons- the butterfly blades are decent.
And yeah thats all i got right now.

My second favourite of all weapons to dual wield is the butterfly wing axes from shieldhand, in my opinion they do more dmg then any other combo besides orbs (and probably some ficer spellforges combos). Don't get as many bonus hits as halfspears but they hit properly, see double/triple cleaved into hashes all the time. Never tried the hooked axes, I think they give some kind of defensive bonus, but I never tank while dualing so that'd be why. Some more info on the shieldhand weapons here - ancientanguish.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=nottoget&action=display&thread=872I dont really remember what the serrated shortswords are like, I normally use the twin shortswords from ainan, forget what they're called though. Neither of them are fantastic damage wise. Best combo for SSs imo is the gathering doc weapon and a gladius in offhand, I remember that combo doing some very nice dmg (plus you get the -1 dex on your opponent from the silk). Either way axe shortsword and spear all go up very fast for a ranger so you may as well give them all a try.
