How viable do you folks think a human drakon is? Rhynst suggests an orc or an elf.
Given that humans have a more str than elf, more MP than orc but lose out on dex to both, is it a viable option?
Or if your SS is only at say level 12, would it make sense to suicide and restart as any of the other two races?

Dexterity I have an orc and elf shifter at Drakon 5. Human has less dexterity than the two aforementioned races. Dexterity is critical for a Drakon. I would never suggest someone, primarily focused on excelling in that form, pick a race ranked third as such.
Strength Strength is negligible for a Drakon tanking or soloing. Bashing isn't viable for Drakons, unless they're dual tanking (which rules out any utilization of the strength which would result in that player being weighted down).
Orc vs Elf I have an Orc Drakon because I figured the higher CON would work nicely, whereas I would maintain SP from optimal heal consumption. I don't get hit enough, often times, for that to be most worth the while.
Orc Drakon doesn't get hit often (which isn't something to complain about), however I often ended up untouched and sorely wishing I had more SP to work with or getting pummelled by high dexterity NPCs AND missing my breath attacks. In most instances, my SP ran out and I had to melee the NPC to death and/or waste resources to speed up the kill.
With my Elf Drakon, I get hit less often than my Orc Drakon, my breath attacks lands more often, the SP regeneration is better, and I have more SP to work with. There is no downside to Elf Drakon. It is the best Drakon, by far.
Suicide? As for suiciding to reset race, it is definitely worth your while, if you do prefer another. At L12, you've likely invested far less than 24h of aging and leveling. It takes me about two weeks of character age to properly configure a shapeshifter.
Human? Beside my opinion shared above, I do believe Human Drakon is viable. While I prefer Orc and Elf, being human does have numerous advantages (although unrelated to efficient combat). Mob aggression and guild options come to mind, but I don't know how heavily such things factor into your considerations.
I do hope alternative perspectives are offered and you make the most of your shifter character.

anguish.org/tools/showarchivenote.php?id=11&date=1183273200¬e=20You can lose 13 dex, play for an hour and it just seems like an off-day. Whatever effect dex has is unimportant, at least in terms of breathing. If you want to use dodge and do the overly complicated dodging method that rhynst describes, you'll be better off elf or orc. I found dodging annoying, and usually ended up with far more hp than sp with dodge none. New levels helps shifters a ton with extra carrying capacity and stronger attacks, and the effect of that is way more noticeable than race. Human drakon is very playable, played one to 25 mil or so. I would keep playing, but if you want to try the dodging thing it'd be worth switching.

Personally, I found Orc to be the best race choice for a shifter overall, and also the best for a Drakon tank. Chomping up heals for extra sp, to breathe? Sure, why the hell not? You're staying alive, don't take it for granted. Also, when an NPC is seriously wounded, or almost dead, don't hesitate to just use your 'tail' to finish him off, rather than tap your fingers and wait for your petty little claws and auto-tail-whips to do the deed. Brawler skill (and trait) is a must, if your focus is Drakon.
To top it all off, when you're suddenly bored of being a Drakon, you still have 16 Str, and plentiful dex to use good weapons. Crescent is easily in your very patient future, as well as the two-handed swords. I know of an alt who's got their shifter two-weapon skills in the 50s, so even that's possible.
If the Knights and Elves don't see you in Orc-form, they won't know what you are (neither will Gorg though, he will deem you a "Freak"), however, your guild choice could change that minor benefit.
All in all, the only bad choice for a shifter (and a drakon) is a Half-Elf.
