Some might disagree that SK is dead, but nobody should honestly disagree that this forum's SK section is dead and done. Nobody fights in SK anymore. SK died years ago. SK won't be revived. Stop wasting code and space with SK crap This whole section should be deleted, to make room for the more important section that shall be named... eh, nevermind, I can't think of anything funny. But, yeah, SK is done, ditch this.

What, in your opinion, would bring back SK? Or is it beyond repair? What was so different long ago that SK was amazing and ultra-cool that isn't happening now?

Well, back when I first joined there was about 20 solid SK members, who logged in every day and fought everyday. Of course you had the same cheapshot ambush rogues and lightning mages, but nobody cared. Everybody fought anyways. Day in, day out, there would be 10 new entries on the SK plaque.
Everyone truely realises the penalty of death, tho, so ppl are less inclined to welcome a death in the sport of pk. People would rather cheat and sneak for their points, which turns away newcomers who don't stand a chance. Like I said, of course that aspect has always been there, but it hasn't always been the only aspect.
All in all, SK death is a huge handicap and alot of ppl can't overcome it. And because of that, new ppl don't join and alot of ppl don't stay. So SK is whittled down to the "hardcore" pk'ers who still get a thrill from pk, but after too much time of no new blood and/or inactivity their desire to pk atrophies, eventually turning them away.
So I have no clue what would incite a riot inside SK, again. I don't think it'll ever be the same. Everyone's just finally realised pk on AA isn't well rounded, in the death aspect, I guess.

Well I think you're right, death is the biggest reason why people don't get involved with SK. Myself death isn't too bad an issue, if I knew that I wasn;t going to be completely crushed. I have been playing AA since 96 (not as long as others I know), and not once joined SK. If I knew that there were other people who also didn't know all the tricks then yeah I would probably give it a go. But not now, knowing that if I join I'll just be slaughtered endlessly by people that have been in SK for years.

Hehe, that was my first concern when joining SK. But, I can raise any class pretty quickly. So I figured I'd join SK, be very cautious, kill accordingly, and learn from my mistakes. Then when my alt became beyond repair, I'd make another one. Rinse and repeat. But really, it wasn't worth it. I coulda been like the 3rd-5th fighter to reach 1600 had I skipped the whole "waste dozens of alts to SK" state of mind. Now ppl just think I'm a raging dickhead just cuz I was in SK for so long and was always pretty vocal. So, it's kinda ruined my "normal" AA'n days some, cuz ppl already don't like me without knowing me, but oh well.
There's OLD SCHOOL AA'ers out there that have never joined SK and are considered the best players in the game, but still are wary of joining SK for "not knowing the tricks" and stuff. Nanji is one of them. He's got like 5-6 alts that he made for SK, but never ended up joining, cuz he was afraid to die and not learn from his mistakes, hehe. Only way to learn, is to jump right in and learn from your mistakes, though.

Well perhaps I'll have to give it a go then. Any suggestions for someone just starting out?

Wooo, gotta love the filter. At least I hope it was the filter. I mean, if I gotta talk to Machine like a 3 yr old about poo poo and wee wee, I'm gonna have to freeze all my alts.

Any class can be a pk character. Just depends on your preferences. I'll give a brief explination of my definitions and outlook on each pk class.
Fighter : Hearty killers, low damage compared to others. Easy to kill with, just the lack of offense hinders you. Grab a big 2h weapon or 2 weapons to dual wield, then grab 4-6 mungas, then grab as many murkies as you can carry and go to town.
Mage : Pretty good damage output, lowish HPs. Work staff skill. Watch out for onyx medallions. Use a full round of murkies and 4-6 neurals. Bring 2-4 mungas. Make sure to cast your acid arrow every other round, always. Keep the high dmg output up, and most opponents die.
Necro : Insanity and sheer pk power. Pure offense. Revenant + your staff skill + munga + rot? That's sick. Just gotta watch your HPs, make sure you rot every round, and make sure you include revenant in on the fight. Bring full round of murkies and full round of neurals. 2-4 mungas.
Rogue : Really good pk class, well rounded. Two options. Bow/munga rogue or weapon/munga/secondary rogue. Alot of ppl chose archery rogues for quicker dmg. Grab a bow 1-2 quivers of arrows, 4-6 mungas, and as many murkies as you can carry and get to work. I like the element of suprise behind the random secondary dmg and occassional bc/mass from a weapon. Raise rapier, snag a jdr, snag a stoney/sai/munga/rondel for secondary, alert on, same amout of heals, and 4-6 mungas. I liked to bring a couple crutches and kniggets to replenish SPs for tripping, too.
Ranger : Pretty good, similar to rogues and necros. Like playing a downgraded necro. Same two choices as rogue, bow or weapon. I like 2ha + wolf + munga + strike. Others like archery + munga + wolf + strike. Use a dotimes 100 strike while fighting for that extra dmg. Basically, grab yer weapons, 4-6 mungas, and as many murkies you can hold.
Paladin : Ultimate cheese, but fun. Not a solid pk'r, cuz ppl know to get nice when a SK paladin logs in. I had one, just to log in and maul necros and anyone else dumb enough to fight me while nasty or evil. I liked to ambush alot, too. If you chose this one, get high ls skill, wield a longsword, wear a shield, pray aura before fight, use turtle, carry full round of murkies and a full round of neurals, adding drink and food if desired. Keep those SPs up so you can keep the smiting up.
Cleric : I've actually never had a SK cleric. Cory made a good showing of an orc cleric, however, no offense to him, I just wonder if his success was propelled by the dex bug he used. Either way, his method was simple. Big club + shield + munga + pray hammer. Bring murkies for HPs and dark reds or nuerals for pray hammer SPs.
All this is easily modified for more effectiveness, but if I were to try to type out every single last shred of information, it'd be too long and confusing to decipher, if this isn't already. Basically, just grab a weapon, grab a few mungas, grab as many heals as you can get, and make sure you use your class' killing abilities once every round, if possible.

You asked for it...
Shapeshifter SK (same stats as rangers):
Treant: Pros - v.high armour w/ no encumberance means can carry lots of murkies (can carry more than their str suggests as well), occasionally receives extra attack per round (think random 'strike' for no sps cost). Cons - no weapon means no hungas, entangle is largely useless (doesn't work often) and doesn't last long enough solo. Verdict - Sitting duck.
Drakon: Pros - decent armour w/ no encumberance so can carry lots of murkies/dark reds, random tail attacks help damage a bit. Cons - no weapon so no hungas, best attack 'Breath' apparently sucks big time in PK (does little damage). Verdict - poor physical damage + low damaging special attacks + average armour = v. poor.
Xaerre: Pros - Do well with clubs and mms so Kraky+hungas or similar would work (or archery, same as rogues/rangers), 20 sps 'claw' attack at xaerre5 does a very decent amount of damage. Con - relatively average armour (better than none tho). Verdict - should play in a similar way to fighters (who aren't dualling) or rangers or rogues.
SO basically xaerre SK -should- work out pretty well - anyone good at PK should have no problems with them.
- yeah, yeah, I know shifters suck etc etc...
Sarc
btw, this is just my opinion, i've never been in SK and would probably suck big time if I was. Also, so far as I know, no shifters have ever joined SK (willingly) or regularly bounty-hunted so none of the above's provable.

actually, I didn't mention shapeshifters because I was hoping nobody else would. I didn't wanna give out any adivce or opinions on it, because I'm working on a shapeshifter that I will put in SK. I was trying to keep it a secret and stuff, so it'd be a huge suprise to the SK community. Bastiges

Ok time to respond to my recent demotions.
I have just a few things to say:
Did I cheat at the game of Ancient Anguish - YES I DID!
I learned about this bug after my alts Cory and Dre were in sk as cleric and rogue, so therefore Cory's record of over 50-5 was all non-bug related. If you don't believe this let me prove it The dex bug has now been fixed completely. So I will now make another cleric and brand him into sk. I will defeat anyone who steps up with the exception of the few who are worth their salt. I welcome anyone to bring their game and I'll bring mine. I fought one damn sk with that fucking bug and now I get accused of sucking. Well we'll see.. We'll fucking see indeed.
Fuck You All

I don't know who that was aimed at, but I'll do like I always do and assume it was somewhat towards me. I never claimed you sucked. I actually said you were the best sk cleric I know of, it's just not certain whether or not you used the dex bug as cleric. You said you didn't though, so cool.
While you're at it, wanna clear up the rumour that *I* told you about the bug? Soreass, aka Sora, was having a good 'ol time running around spreading shit on me that I was the one who discovered the bug, then showed a bunch of ppl just so I could turn around and tell Law about the bug. Clarifications?

Ok, Machine climbed into my brain and stole my stealth sk shifter idea, I swear to gawd. I read that post and I just raised my hands to the heavens in vain entreaty, sank to my knees and screamed, "Nooooooo!" (or was it "Stelllaaaaaaaaaa!".... I forget.)
