depends on what your after as a player...and how well you know the game.. and if you prefer playing solo or in a party. if you prefer solo play i'd go neither... start a ranger (human or helf) or ficer...(prob dwarf or human) if you prefer party play... depends on if you prefer bashing behind a tank or leading the party..

Just to be sure, are you a newbie? 'Cuz if you are, ignore Morask completely. Don't even think about making a 'ficer or a ranger. Make yourself a human fighter, join Knigglets, and go from there.

*bow* to Gromlakh, must admit i forgot about the newbie factor.. was just replying aboout style of play... and a ficer wouldnt be a good class for a new player... although as far as rangers go... my first ever alt (apart from a brief foray as a mage) was a ranger... they are easy to play , not to complex.. solo well, and can party well also....

Just my $0.02 (probably worth less due to inflation), you could go either fighter or rogue as a basher. Fighter would have a wider variety of skills and raise exotic/TW up faster (if you wanted that route). A fighter can disarm, and a rogue can trip. Either ones gets the job done faster than not having either. I guess the 1700 goal being closer makes fighter more enjoyable, while also being able so steal and ambush makes rogue more fun. :o) If you have neither at all, make both.

That, and for me anyways, it's always been easier to raise up a fighter at lower levels... your skills positively rocket, and if you do it right, you can end up with 25-30 in most skills with no problem just by doing Zhou... and if you have a mage and ficer friend... hehehe.... fun times! I've gotten a lower level fighter up into the high 40s in longsword, and low 50s in club on the last Zhou session.
Annnnyways.... what that higher skill means, is you can get your damage output up there a lot quicker with a fighter than with anything else. If you're used to bashing in parties, then you should be able to find one of the tanks you party with often, and have him let you tag for exp and skills. With higher skills in like club or longsword at lower levels, you'll hit a lot, and actually end up doing enough damage to make decent exp. Even at lvl 10-11, with maxxed club skill at 55-60ish, and a ficer spellforged warhammer of mastery/excellence/skillfulness, you should be able to pull enough exp/hr just tagging and binding the tank to fly through the mid levels. Then you hit the actual party levels, and you're golden from there.
*shrug* I personally have a lot more fun playing fighters too... but that's just me.

Off topic certainly, but what's the difference between the 3?
mastery, excellence, skillfulness?

The difference is the amount of skill bonus they add... Skillfulness is 0-18, and goes in 3 pt chunks..... well..... used to, before they changed the code. Now it's pretty much randomly 0-18. Excellence goes from 0-32... and mastery goes from 0-48..... (basically, a 0 skill boost is a fail, and only happens if you suck.)
Damage booster spellforges are basically the same deal.... sharpness, puissance, and might..... low -> medium -> high damage boost to the weap.
Then there's "Power".... which is a combination of sharpness and skillfulness.... 0-18 skill boost with low lvl damage booster.
