What kinds of traits would be helpful to fightertypes?
I'm thinking, some of the solo traits (Hard skinned?), or perhaps some of the heal ones, like glutton or drunkard. (How effective is fury, anyway? Worth trying to keep up the sps?).
I would guess that the weapon specific traits would be up to personal choice, though once a skill has topped out they become kind of redundant, while something like hard skinned or the heal ones would remain useful till you stopped playing.
Oh, and obviously the memory to retain skills.

*grin* Yeah... memory to retain skills and pure soul to retain exp from deaths are definitely good ones. ESPECIALLY if you're a higher level fighter, where deaths actually start to hurt. It really depends on your playing style, and what you're into doing when you play your fighter. If all you do is bash, then wtf good is hard skinned? Just in case you get hit, it'll hurt a bit less? If all you do is solo, then hard skinned is awesome, and a "must have". I personally believe that the best defense is a good offense, so.... my personal playing style is basically... the quicker I can make something dead, the less hurt I get . *grunt* Therefore, I sunk a bunch of points into an extra dex and str point... marksman just in case you use hungas a lot at reboots to get eq... the pure soul/memory I got 2 points each... then I've been toying and thinking about what traits to pick to get the maximum possible benefit to the damage I do. Racial hates.... weapon expert... etc. I can tell ya after playing with it extensively on Anarchy, that the higher you get lvl-wise, the better fury damage gets. At some point above lvl 30, depending on the weapon, Fury starts to do more overall damage than berserk. And by lvl 42..... berserk's not even worth it. Basically, berserking fighter lvl 20 will hit as hard as a berserking fighter lvl 40 with the same stats... but a lvl 40 in fury will pound the everlovin shit out of a lvl 40 that's berserking. For PK tho, there's no contest.... fury wins. period. (See SK logs and scythe board on Anarchy)

I was wondering about that, because I saw you play with it (but you were on anarchy, so I didn't know which traits (such as hard skinned) you actually had... And might as well watch the best for examples. But, if I'm looking ahead to increasing damage - that makes sense, grab racial hates for my more common enemies (Orc, human are the ones that spring immediately to mind. Maybe elf?). I'd heard that it was possible to weapon expert 2weapon, so maybe 2weapon, and wield some sabres or short swords.

I'm against it, because to me, it seems like it flips a subconscious switch that encourages you to die more. Plus, it's almost hardcore to not touch it. Yeah I have a lot of qualms about it. I know at high levels we're talking months, or in excess of a year's work to regain the loss... but still. For me I think there's too many mental qualms involved to bother.

Well... I look at it like this....... I've made it for -years- with Calvin without dying.... *** KNOCKS ON WOOD H A R D *** So long that I'm not even on the mortus lists. I solo... I tank... I kill -everything- on the mud, from Valdrath on down... solo. I bash sometimes... I take huge risks that most high level fighters wouldn't dream of. But I manage not to die somehow. I've got 2 levels in pure soul and unnatural memory. Just in case. Do I plan on ever using them? Hell no. Do I feel like I can take more risks because I know I won't lose as much exp or skills? Nope. I already DO take about as much risks as you can. Does it change my playing style to have pure soul and unnatural memory? Not one bit. Look at it like you do car insurance. You're a good driver, right? You're not going to wreck your car, right? You've maybe never had a wreck... so why get insurance? hmm? Cuz you just never know what's around that next corner, and there's a lot of other idiots out there on the roads that might run into you... just like lag on AA...... I might not believe that my skill level is gonna let me die.... but I sure as hell believe in that Irish bastard, Mr Murphy. (And by the way, my rational with getting 2 levels and not the full 3, is that I figure I'm probably not gonna actually die anytime soon, and if shit happens and I do... It won't be TOO bad to only lose 1-2 skills each, and a few mill exp... instead of the full 5 in each and 10mill)

Calvie,
Way back in august you suggested that in the 30's, fury, and berserk would reach a crossover point. Are you there yet?

Nope.... I'm thinking that Fury will start doing more damage overall around lvl 35 or so... in most cases.
