Wow. You're a fighter. And you use riposte. And you just admitted it on a public board. haha

Yep... uhmmm... what's wrong with that? *scratch* I am on parkraz and meds (and the occasional free heals i can find around), hate potions and being mostly on my own i don't use drinks for i need to bind myself... so going berserk all the time would force me to stop a lot to heal. I find riposte to be a decent compromise between hitting (often twice with xrune or vblade) and not being hit vs hitting like mad and being crushed/minced/served with mayonnaise in berserk style. Btw if any of you big boys wanna tank, i'd be more than happy to go around after you keeping my a§§ dry and safe *gaze*

a lot of peeps only play fighters when they have a nice tank *wink* so they can berserk all the way and stay nice and dry. Stick to riposte man

Ditto.
Lemme put it this way. Playing a fighter with defend riposte.... is the equivilant of playing a rogue with defend riposte, alert off, no secondary, so no riposte bonus at all, with 1 less dex and 1 more str.
Yeah, you get hit less. So you can stay in combat, what, say 20 rounds longer without having to run away to heal. But... using berserk, you wouldn't NEED to be in combat those extra 20 rounds, cuz with the higher damage you dealt out in berserk, the npc's already dead. Given the choice between slow, steady, tedious killing, and fast, quick, high damage death dealing... I'm gonna take the quick route. You end up burning a bit more heals, yeah... but you're exp is gonna go up MUCH faster.
Over the course of an hour using riposte, say you kill for 100k exp total, and use 10k worth of heals, and get 20k coins back. You'd do the same exp in 30 minutes in berserk, prolly use 20k worth of heals, maybe 25k.... and still get the same 20k coins back. So if you went the whole hour at that rate, you'd have double the exp, and either be even on coins, or down 10k. And if you vary your kills a little bit, between cash and exp, you can actually make money solo using defend berserk. You just gotta know what you're doing. *shrug*
But, like the saying goes, everyone's got their own opinion... if riposte works for you, don't let us change your mind.

oh... and btw... in case anyone's curious... the same logic does NOT work for fury. Because, take it from me.... you get the ever-lovin SNOT kicked outta you when you try to solo/tank using fury. You get hit a LOT more, and harder, than you do with berserk. And it seems like you're doing about the same damage as berserk anyways, so you'd end up burning way more heals for no real gain.

yea i found that too, and it's kinda weird, since defend berserk is supposed to be worse (get hit for more/more often) than defend none...

Helpful and revealing... (seriously) - thanks! So the impression i got about fury being quite self-punishing (if not used behind a tank) is real, or at least agreed on... For the berserk/riposte debate, I agree with you about the efficiency, but please take into account that my fighter is still 15 with 77ls as a max skill. Still no brutal damage for me (my 2ha, 2hs are quite low atm not to mention my puny dual at 2), so i'd be fish food long before any 'valuable' NPC kicked it... but I'm looking forward to change my style as soon as my stats become more decent. I sometimes tanked with a dwarf fighter some 4/5 years ago... nothing really serious, just some fun with friends... and I was burning kniggets and crutches like hell, still making some xp and money at the end (don't remember the numbers but probably not more than 100kxp and 10kgold/hr). It was a time when Knights had some decent players in... and good uniques were to be found even some hours after boot... *sigh* (ok, kick me now... I'm becoming sentimental).

Ahhh, I remember the day a new-found rogue friend and I killed some Scyther rouges while bountied for only my second time. Narstil and Lonewolf. Oh they seemed to hate my new buddy oh so much. But we sure handed them their arses. If only I could remember said buddy-rogue's name. Hrmmmm....

Some more fury emotes using Chainstaff
You do <-> They see
You grimace with hatred and almost lose control. <-> ConDemneD grimaces. You lose control of your emotions and roar in anger. <-> ConDemneD roars out in anger. You charge at Inhuman recklessly, thirsting for blood. <-> ConDemneD charges at Inhuman. Your vision blurs red as you lunge at Inhuman. <-> ConDemneD lunges at Inhuman. You scream in rage! <-> ConDemneD screams in rage! Your anger boils over and you hurl yourself at Inhuman. <-> ConDemneD hurls himself at Inhuman. With a mighty heave, you swing your chain staff into Inhuman. <-> With a mighty heave, ConDemneD swings his chain staff into you.
