Anybody know.... I can't seem to tell...
What determines when the wolf levels (and sub levels)? Does it level when the stats reach a certain point, or after it's been logged on for a determined amount of time, or a combo?
I intentionally try to raise my animal's stats, but I haven't been able to figure out if there's a time factor. If I hadn't invested so much time in getting Fido to where he is now, I'd start from scratch and monitor it more closely.

Yeah, I did look at that post. It has alot of great information, but I'm still a little unclear on some aspects advancing a canine.
There was mention to the effect of 'if you've been idling and your animal hasn't advanced, go kill something'. I'm not going to idle with my canine (he advanced quite quickly it seems by having him fight). However, what I wonder is this: Let's say he kills fuzzies for 4 hours straight and maxes all stats for that doggie level (including the sub-levels). Will he go to the next level (huge to enormous or whatever) right away, or is there a time thing where 8 hours have to pass before it can advance (times here are entirely hypothetical)?
I've been trying to figure it out, but since there is no definitive message when the dog advances, it's hard to pin down exactly when it does advance (stats, sub-levels and levels). Leveling is the easiest because all of the sudden the description changes (an enormous... enters the room).

it's all bout the time. you can kill and advance the sublevels as much as you want, but in the end it comes down to waiting for him to grow.

you have to be vigilant in watching and observing your wolf, but it is really all academic...your wolf will get there in the end... take your time and be careful and dont let it die..
wolf size is based purely on time as pillar states, the reference about xp, from reading rynsts guide, i believe, is that if you just sit there and try and idle the wolf up without killing it wont grow as the wolf may need some xp to advance, from personal experience i also believe that the size of your wolf is governed by your own wis, so you cant have a level 1 character running around with a gigantic wolf, i tried to idle my wolf from huge to enormous and idled well past 30 hours in growth time and wolf didnt advance (some of that time was spent killing so i dont belive that the xp thing would have been the limiting factor) there is a heap of info on times posted on the ranger thread.. you just need to convert it from aa lifetime ..ie very large....1d21h55m huge............2d20h45m
roughly 24 hours....
to get a wolf to gigantic without it dieing, it takes a bout 6 days real time,
just let the wolf tank, keep a close watch on its hp status, keep it fed, keep it collared, when it can carry, large i think, grab a container and have the wolf carry as much as it can, and be sure to max its str each time it grows a mini level, you can tell its advanced as its stat descriptors will all drop a level....
one funny thing i did notice, was that when i know my wolf should have advanced its size and hadnt, if i logged off and back on this triggered the size change. coincidence maybe??- *shrug*

The main thing with actually playing with the wolf, versus just sitting on your ass idling somewhere and watching it grow is that by working with the wolf, making it carry, fight, guard, etc.... the stats raise as the wolf grows. Just idling with it, yeah, it'll be an enormous wolf when you're finished... but it'll be a pussy ass big puppy... No str, no dex, no int, wis.... the con will be there cuz you feed it constantly, but the rest of the shit will suck ass. It'd be like raising up an alt to lvl 19 idling in someone elses party, without advancing any stats but con... yeah, yer lvl 19, but a lvl 13 could kick your ass in a fight.
That's why it's much better to play with the wolf while it grows... yeah, it won't be able to kill shit when it's a large wolf, but when it does hit enormous, it'll be kickass.....
