Ok, so since I cannot bear the thought of raising a bonded (I mean come on, I left shifters due to too much time commitment) I have been toying around with various nonbondeds, or as I call them, throwaways.
Here is my little route:
Tame Brumal Hound (he has a free collar) Hit up Misty North Tundra (Elephant Seals/Polar Bears) Let Wolf get to SW Stuff Wolf Let Wolf Tank Until Dead Swing to Academy and get White Wolf Hit up Nepeth Dragon/Fairy Dragon/Queen Stuff Wolf Hit up Wigwog (You'll have to rescue, or let it die and use it for meat) Swing to Ebon Manor and get Winter Wolf Kill Intep on way out Kill Andeli Knights/Princess Kill General Go use Graddam Kill Wyvern Stuff Wolf Kill Ruell and Co. (wolf might die when you hit unicorn) Swing down and tame Female Sylv. wolf Kill Song Mage Swing by Sage in Listhalia Take out Mastadons/Bisons in Anasazi Kill Guard (stuff wolf) Kill Guard/Chief (wolf will probably die here unless you rescue) Swing back down and Male Sylv wolf, hit up moose up north for quick/easy meat refill, then kill Graddam. Fight various things, repeat from top.
I know this seems silly, but I ended up doing like 120k solo hour with around 20k profit and gaining 5 2ha skills. (started at 51)
Once I get a higher 2ha I'll quick even dealing with fuzzies and just start Rhynst-stylin it.

I tried that last night, Dread wolf is like 10x better than the other throwaways. How do red/grey wolf in there compare?

Umm, I didn't ask for the wolf list *spank* I asked, in action, how red/grey compare to the dread wolf.

And I showed you. I wouldn't necessarily suggest that wis proves differences between all wolves, but I'm sure that Star Caverns wolves could be related by their wisdom levels. Wisdom required to tame should be exactly the same as the actual level of the wolf itself. And I believe the stats for monsters are automatically set according to the level until adjusted by the coder, which isn't always done except in special cases. If I recall correctly, Balance doesn't allow much straying from the defaults on stats. Maybe +/- 1 or 2. That said, I would think that dread and red are exactly the same so long as Timber didn't alter their stats to be different. And grey would be one less on all stats from the other two.

grey wolf sucks compared, red wolf has less hps than dread so sucks as well, cuz he doesnt do that fire attack when he's tamed so his damage isnt anything much either.

well i remeber red wolf being much worse than dread one ... he did more damage than dread, only slightly tho (no fire breath as already said) ... but dread one was WAY better tank.
and rangers are very capable of doing much damage by themselves.

Yeah, from what I remember red wolf was the best bashing wolf while dread wolf was the best tanking wolf.

Kinda curious about how couple new non-bondeds compare to star canines...the new grey wolf in Tarran area and the huge rock wolf on Infidian. Haven't messed with the grey one but huge rock hits like a snow wolf on steroids. Almost wish I still had a high lvl non-bonded ranger to go see the wis req and toy with them.
