The Senate periodically reviews and discusses our many rules and policies, including how many playable alternate characters (wizalts) to allow wizards of varying levels and statuses.
Historically, these policies were quite restrictive for wizards below Creator status (level 600+). This limited access to alts has been described by a number of players (individually and during town hall meetings) as a reason they hesitated to seek promotion to wizhood themselves.
The Senate has voted to adjust this policy, effective as of today, and 'help wizrules' has been updated to include the changes.
Previous policy summarized
--------------------------------------
Apprentice Wizards (level 400) were forbidden to play any other character.
Wizards (level 500) were allowed to play one secondary character, with additional alts as follows:
+1 while serving on a committee, with the approval of the Arch
+1 for having a Creator-earning project in the QC queue which has
achieved World approval
Thus, depending on activity, a Wizard could potentially have had a total of 3 playable mortals.
--------------------------------------
New policy summarized
--------------------------------------
Apprentice Wizards (400) are permitted 1 wizalt
Wizards (500), in addition to retaining their Apprentice wizalt, are
permitted:
+1 wizalt (one additional wizalt)
+1 for Level 525; (Contributor)
+2 for Level 550; (Assistant/Committee work)
+1 for a Creator project in the queue which has passed World.
Thus, depending on contributions and activity, a wizard could potentially have a total of 6 playable mortals.
--------------------------------------
This new policy is described in more detail in 'help wizrules', which I urge you to take a moment to read through now.
