(cross-post from in-game boards)
People of Oerthe, I have strange news!
While searching the attic of the Senate chambers for lost marbles, we found a mysterious mechanism marked 'NostAAlgia' covered in many years of dust.
Being brave and confident wizards, we naturally played rock-paper-scissors for hours to determine who should approach this doubtful device, and Paldin lost. I mean, won. Yeah.
I hope you are sitting down as you read this, for the results of his investigations into the crafty contraption are remarkable.

THE DEVICE
***************
Friends, by using this device you can transport a version of yourself into the past! According to our consultation with the numerologist, the specific point in time may be referred to as 2003.
It is a strange world, a world which some of you may recall, and to which all are invited. We are working to stabilize the transportation process. You will have to register to join NostAAlgia; we anticipate this will be available in advance as well as during the time the past world will be open for play (7 November through 22 November - coincidentally between anticipated invasions of undeads/candy and turkeys.)
***************
THE CHALLENGE
***************
And there is a challenge for those daring enough to venture into 2003... At the end of those two weeks of NostAAlgia, the player with the top experience run there, as recorded in the Hall of Heroes, will be awarded a fabulous prize here, in the present-day Anguish. (Specific prize to be announced later.)
The top experience run of each class on NostAAlgia will be rewarded with temporary access (1 real-world year) to the Lounge of Heroes here.
***************
THE WORLD
***************
Transportation will result in many noticeable changes to the NostAAlgic version of yourself. The maximum level in 2003 is 19. The Snowfolk Guild does not exist, so frosty people will have to find a new home when they get there. Artificers also do not exist, and are not eligible for transport (register a different character). Large sums of money will not survive the process, but you will not be destitute. Your NostAAlgic self will also be prompted to choose a primary weapon skill on first login.
For more interesting competition, and because the past world will be available for less than a month, we've made some shortcuts. For example, all players will be level 19 with max stats for their race and class on arrival, regardless of their level and stats on the main mud. Shapeshifters will find they have mastered all forms already (except, of course, fluon and mimeon, which do not exist). Rangers will begin with fully grown bonded wolves (though if you choose to dismiss that in favour of non-bonded wolves, feel free to do so).
A few other minor things you may notice: reboots in 2003 are 25ish hours long. Idle times are nowhere near what you enjoy now. Infidian has not yet been redisocvered. Traits do not exist. People in too much of a hurry may experience bleeding feet. Ranger wolves will not statue with you when you go linkdead.
Aside from the prizes mentioned above, your character on the main mud will not be impacted by your exploits in NostAAlgia. Experience, money, skills, etc, gained on NostAAlgia will not be transferred.
The Rules of Ancient Anguish, which you should all be familiar with already, will still apply. This is not a free-for-all Anarchy-style event.
***************
NOSTAALGIA!
***************
We expect there will be questions and will work to answer them during the days leading up to 7 November, so ask away!
tl;dr: HoH exp run competition on a 2003-era version of AA, 7 Nov - 22 Nov.
Win fabulous prizes.
