We need a super stealing spree and other such nonsense to liven things up. Where the heck is everybody anyways?

All growed up now and who wants to play in the sand box with snot nosed kids.
AA is a solved game for most of us and there's absolutely no challenge anymore once you've reached a certain level. The reward to keep playing is negigible and you have to deal with the admin, who are like union bosses bleeding the system dry.
That being said ... no, that's it.

I know it, I've been watching the numbers steadily decline for the last few months. Shame.

cause no one codes... or the people that do code can't get it past QC/etc... or the stuff that gets past QC/etc is boring useless crap like titles. AA lacks advancement.

I don't know how much lack of new areas play into it, from what I observe mud politics and graphical games had alot to do with AA's decline. Mostly mud politics I think.

Some of us have areas in the works, but we lack motivation to finish them because everyone keeps leaving or downplaying us wizards.

...which is why you get downplayed. ;D

Well, for me and me alone, I would rather only do things that I like to do. And these would be projects that improve the game at the backbone level. That's what I'm good at. I'm not good at areas, descriptions, and deciding what players would find useful. But I have to get an area into the game in order to do some of these other things I like to do. So, for me, discouragement doesn't make me sad or angry or butthurt, but it just doesn't help me motivate to get an area in that'll probably never be used. Sure, I could toss something in and never look back, but I refuse to do that.

If we could have another wizzing explosion, we could get multi-wiz projects in. The last explosion we had last year fizzled out. We need a maintained run of wizzings this time.

If we could have another wizzing explosion, we could get multi-wiz projects in. Your logic escapes me.

With more new wizards, we can eventually produce more multi-wiz projects. Multi-wiz projects are more fun to produce and have more people with vested interest in getting the project done. This means the project can potentially have more value to players and has a better chance of getting into the game in the same decade it's begun.

Don't want to be too negative, but I think you're being a bit too optimistic/idealistic here. Unless one already knows how to code by the time they wiz, the attrition rate for coding new individual projects in AA is pretty bad, add to that the logistics of coordinating between 2 or more people in different timezones and sleep cycles makes this very impractical. From what I remember from my classes, in multi-people projects, one or two people tends to dominate, and result as the others stop caring, forcing the principals to overwork resulting in a less successful outcome.
You basically need like .... I dunno ... a Musashi coming over from another mud. Man I'm old, that's the only super coding comtemporary mortal/wizard I can think of when I first wizzed.
I am skeptical that an ADD addled Gen Yer can sustain the necessary fortitude unless he already knows how to code, but I respect your enthusiam.

What would be nice is if Isador could get time to come back again. He's a programmer for Debian and was able to transfer his C++ knowledge to LPC pretty well. He also had brilliant area ideas in my opinion. Unfortunately, he's caught up in the middle eastern crap at the time.

Heads up for those of you like me who haven't been playing or paying much attention recently. There's talk of an impending purge of old character files, so if you got heaps of old alts you don't wanna loose, better log em in.
