With the recent discussion on necro numbers soloing and partying nearing completion, I'm curious as to what kind of numbers artificers can pull.
What the general time for set up is? Necro setup is about 60 to 75 minutes nowadays and 'ficers appear to be lengthier
I'm also wondering about exp, specifically soloing in a continuous 2-3 hour span, partying, who leads. 1 hr run with no heals prep, but fully equiped.
Pillar, Funky and Calvin I'm especially curious as to your opinions on numbers. Funky being the #1 exp guy and good for continuous exp question, Pillar being an experienced player trying out for the first time (i'm guessing) and Calvin, cause you power play 'ficers.
Calvin, this is a rare case where more is better from you ;D

Well......... keep in mind, that I haven't had time to play much at all because of how busy with work I've been, girlfriend, etc etc... so I haven't seriously played my ficer since before the last adjustment to the constructs. So I'm maybe not the most current guy to ask, but I have a pretty damn good idea. I also haven't put any real time into a spellfag either, and those can be just as good, or better, than a smither..... You'll have to ask Funky or someone else about those.
With Piggificer, if I'm serious about getting up and started as fast as possible... from reboot... on most days I can do it in less than 45 minutes without too much of a problem. That's to get your weapon forged, research, gather parts, and get your started set of scorps.
Normally, It would take me between 90-120 minutes to get everything set for the rest of the reboot. That would mean making sure I've got the best weap possible, with a good spellforge (aka, very fine mithril warhammer of might, etc), and two scorps, at least very fine/fine.... bare minimum on a random number generator hate day, fine/fine.
With that being said, if you put 2 hours into setup at reboot.... you'll have the scorps and eq for the next 47 hours, with no worries about idle time, losing scorps (unless you suck and they die on you). or a crash, which for this discussion, we'll leave out of the equation.
It might take slightly longer for a spellfag, cuz their wands appear to be a cast-iron BITCH to get a skillful wand for the high-end damage wands. Plus they still have to worry about making a construct usually for high solo exp runs.
Now, speaking for myself only, on the average day with Piggificer, assuming normal high-end constructs and weap and eq.... I would keep up a 300-400k/hr rate, while answering phones, printing the occasional map, talking to agents at the office, taking piss breaks, etc.... On the days when I was undisturbed, and actually trying to go faster, I'd pull 400-500k solo rates with no problem. That's not stockpiling heals any, or using hungas, btw... and I'd ALWAYS turn a pretty good profit. The normal pokey rate of 300-350 would usually work out to be 40-50k gold profit per hour.
On the odd days when some nice ranger would make me a pile of medicine to burn..... then I'd do some sick numbers. Most of my "exp runs" were just days when I had a) time, and b) a pile of medicine. For instance.... the fastest run I did, the one that's on the HOH for Piggificer, was a fluke.
I wanted to put a solo run up on the Scythe Boki Fastest/Glorious lists with Piggificer that'd top the runs that were on there, just for the fuck of it. So I asked a few rangers to make me some medicine... and I got about 150.... didn't stockpile pots at all, or any other heals. Didn't do anything special. Just got AOI, a good warhammer, the scorps, and a buncha paper and ink for arrow summon scrolls. Didn't kill Velox or Valdrath or Sydiemath. Just the Thraxi high guards and the rest of the npcs on the mud. I had Tollie purge me twice at monks, and I took a quick piss-break while he was doing that.
And I got 813,434 exp/hr... and I went 1hr 33 minutes. I almost didn't bother to go LD beforehand, but I did at the last second just in case I beat the one I had up there (about 500kish I think from when I was lvl 18 or 19) and I ended up getting the 813k... That's going pretty balls-to-the-walls... but that was back then. and that's also pretty much a standard exp route nowadays, without throwing in the tougher epics. If you figured out how to nuke Velox and Sydie without too much trouble, and could throw those in too? And a few of the newer npcs, like Yosra, the anakim, etc... Yeah... that wouldn't be hard to beat. I figure if I had the time, and could work on it for a few weeks to get myself back in the exp zone.... I could probably top 1.5mill without too much trouble, with the same prep.

LOL on the book anyways, i've played a smithy up to 100mil (almost) and pretty close to what piggy says above. about 45mins setup for wpn/2 constructs (1 scorp/1 centaur...just cause i like em and they're nice on the damage) and then maybe up to 2hrs for a vg wpn and smithy ammy. my numbers aint crazy like above but I can keep about 250-300k/hr pretty constantly with decent profit. i never bother killing any of the epics, well apart from going thru the thraxi a couple of times but usually i avoid them and the storm dragons and vexy. a few times when i pushed it i've done 450k/hr while downin pots. never any rangers i know on who can make me medicines although usually when i get within a couple of mil exp from a level I starting pushing the numbers harder and cut out the profit in trade for exp. never saved anny of the pstats though. prolly should have for this thread recently i started playing a spellie for a change. insomnia started as a mage then switched to necro and then switched to a ranger and now finally a spellie. hooked on the spellies now. in fact, i prefer them over smithys just for the pure madness. i've hit 0HP/ 1hp/ 2 hp now a few times. plenty of nakid tanking but much more fun then a smithy. you have to adjust what kills to go for slightly so it took a while to figure out a decent route. once i got all my abilities up to a decent level i started running around messing with the runes and different wands trying to find out what wands are optimum for killing. smither's guide for ficers was a massive help. so much great info in it and the alias system is absolutely savage. the startup time for a spellie is freakin huge. that's the only pain in de ass. it varies hugely depends on a few variables like finding all the good wands/wards/amulets/constructs and then trying to find a friendly smithy to make you a bunch of wands. then you gotta start mining (you gotta mine if u going to be a spellie) for the rare gems to make the good wands. my usual setup is a decent spellcraft or enchanter amulet first and foremost. then start making oils and start enchanting some wands. i've come across three different types of skillful wands - 7 charge, 8 charge & 9 charge wand. 9 charge wands are a BITCH to make. somedays you will get a nice friendly RNG day and you might hit your 9 charge wand in a couple of tries. other days all you make is 8 chargers at best and have to stick with that. the 8 chargers are usually a Burst wand (not as good as a 9 charger heavy burst) but sometimes you will get a heavy burst 8 charge wand. i usually make 5-6 wands and hope for a 9 charge by the end of them. i've been using vitriol wands(or ice wand), righteousness wand and extra healing wand. after the wands (if you have the stomach to keep going!) the construct comes next. I've only the conc to make the one construct at the min (without using the elixir/scroll and all 6 int uniques to make a 2nd one) and I usually go and make a scorp to save the hastle of looking for a smithy to forge a wh for a centaur. so, about 2-3hrs for setup usually but sometimes quicker(2hrs) if you share your formula around with the other spellies on and you get lucky with the rng. then comes the wards and i start stock piling stuff for a bunch of chalks. after that I'm rdy to play. the wpn i've decided on is the Hjem because it seems to be the best non-unique 1h club. (someone needs to code a nice 2h warhammer that magically unwields when I wand to wave my wand ) No saved pstats at the moment but I must start saving a few. I've been hitting a constant 300k/hr with some profit regularly now and that would be just crusing around and not going near any epics. crusing as in selecting my kills to suit my wards/wands. i tend to go for pretty strange npcs, not on the usual killing routes so i've been hitting the odd stacked ones here and there so have hit 360-400k/hr quite a few times. the only killer is that the extra healing wand absolutely rapes your tolerance so i need regular EPIC level purging. heh. the only problem is trying to get a full clear hour or two or so to play! too many distractions these days! somedays i get enuf time to get setup and then only manage 2hrs to play until reboot. still, worth it for the fun of the class. so many things to mess around with. Insomnia is going alright though. I'm well in the top20 ficers now for exp and about a few mil exp from lev26. Get that necro code going dr lung....get me back into necro-ing I still think i can make exp quicker with a necro when everaged over the playing time...even using revs. 5mins setup and straight into the killing then. no massive purgin sprees and all the sps going into rot madness rather than recharging / unlatching etc. althought, if you're playing for a good few hrs over a boot then i suppose the ficers will take over on the exp front. necros just need a nice refreshing boost of adjusted rituals to start making the class more interesting to play again.

made a very fine centaur today and got him SSM. tested out the damage on calvin. i put the log in appropriate thread and here are the results:
47 round fight 37 hits, averaging 18.84/hit 10 kicks, averaging 15.8/kick
so, scorp hits a L32 fighter, defend none, about 80% of the time and kicks him about 20%.
going to try and get my hands on a very fine trillian warhammer of power and/or might as well as krak and chart that damage as well.

Well, I've been playing a Spellie for a few months now. Going to start hitting the grind on them to put up some numbers and good intel, as they seem to be lacking it when compared to Smithcrafters. I can say this, in regards to what Calvin was saying...yes, spellies can take a much longer time for setup because of wands being pretty difficult; although, just this boot, I was fully setup in under 2 hours...I got extremely lucky and got perfect enchants on the first 4 wands I made(1 xhealing, 3 vitriol) along with 3 amulets(smithcraft, enchanter, merchant) and my scorp came out vfine, too. Now, once I was spellforging, THAT slowed me down and I just said screw it and rocked wbbhs. More to come soon.

And when I say "lacking it" I don't mean output or overall ability...I guess that wasn't the way to word it. I'm just finding the playstyle a bit more risk-infused without 2 bugs to jump in front of me, but I'm sure once I get my third clean spirit the wand will start being easier to cope with.

Well, I finally got around to doing a HoH run as a spellie with the setup I wanted(2 centaurs with big warhammers, me with dual wbbhs and damge wands). I had a bunch of help from Bazhi, Roku, Dasha, and Lavalamp. Thanks to those who made this possible! I now know I can put my foot on the accelerator because I know what works best now, and I'm pretty sure I can get another 50-60% minimum.

Oh, and to note:
I used primarily large, good-alignment read, tmaps, had Bazhi read. Used about 30 medicine, 20 dark reds, but also did Thraxi and Storm dragons. Wand of extra healing with clean spirit 3+ and scroll of mental recharge(healing around 75sps per read, 5 reads per scroll, scroll costs 30 or 35sps, I honestly forget exactly right now how much, but it keeps your sps flowing after each fight to fill wands back up quickly, cheaply, and with no stuffed/drunk/tolerance addition) means you don't really need anything but smokes and medicinals to rock the mud on a normal run of 9ks and regular epics.
*Edit: scroll of mental recharge DOES add tolerance, but slowly, similar to wand of extra healing. I'm starting to think that clean spirit may just be the #1 trait for a spellcraft specialist.
