Many have asked why I created Tempest on this board. So I answer here with the story of Tempest. I created this account to transition over to because Aurac is a dead name to me. I'm transitioning my e-mail addresses over to my real name for real-life things (bills, family) and tempest for AA-related/online friends stuff. Aurac was my first main alt on AA back in '98. Of course, he was soon eclipsed by Blain because I became more well known on the latter. After I demoted Blain the second time, I decided to wiz with Aurac the next time to try and reestablish him as my main online identity. Since I'll never play Aurac again because he's banished, I decided a few months ago to take use Tempest as the primary identity. Tempest, in theme, is a dwarven paladin. The word is an English variant of the Latin vulgarization of the word Tempus, meaning time. Invictus is Latin for invincible. Thus, Tempest Invictus is supposed to mean Invincible Windstorm. If you'll notice my signature on here, I use "./Tempest" to symbolize root (God) inciting the paladin Tempest Invictus "the invincible windstorm" to conquer over evil in the realm of Ancient Anguish as a Paladin. It was a joking blend of Linux with Ancient Anguish's theme. Naturally, anything done and said by me as Tempest or Invictus should be posted by Tempest on here, and not Aurac. After creating the account, I only posted as Aurac for things pertaining to Aurac to keep from causing confusion. One of the reasons I posted all of the stories I wrote as Aurac a year ago was to do some things I wanted to do as him and then retire the account and finally the name overall. Inspiration for this came from hearing about the movie Constantine with Keanu.

And I thought MY name was deep, naming it after a fictional 6 year old cartoon character, who was named after a 16th century theologian......

Speaking of diseases, Lunger: Blain means "boils" But I got it from changing letters around in Blade (after seeing the movie). I didn't know it was actually a name until a year later. My first Blain was a human rogue. My second and third were elf rogues, and then after a short mage stint which ended in death to the Cold Hand Clan, Blain became a necro and was until banished. I used Blain in my first AOL Screenname when I turned 18 and got an ISP seperate from my parents'. Everybody on the net called me by the nickname (AA and AOL chat). Then my real life friends called me it because of AIM. At age 19, around New Years Eve 2000, I had a tribal design with the name Blain hidden within tattooed on my left arm as a sign of freedom after moving out of my parents' house for the first time. When I moved to Kansas after joining the military, all but my co-workers called me Blain. Back on AOL, I used to roleplay in the chatrooms as Blain being a human mage/thief (to combine Aurac and Blain into one character).
Aurac is a neighboring city on SimCity 2000. At least, that's where I got it from. After some research, it's also a rare first name. There's a Sir Aurac in English history. Aurac was a mage throughout most of his career. There was one time when he was a ranger (trying to go up 1.4 mil or so with ranger and then switch to mage), but I ended up wizzing him instead.
Kdragyn, my first AA character ever, was my IRC nick. It's a slightly leetspeak name from way back when I was 16 and brand new to the net. Aurac was also my IRC nick from when I was a SimCity 2000 addict at school.
Most of the other alt names I used were just names and words I'd seen places. For instance, Kuati was the name of a lake I saw a sign for while driving from California to Kansas in '01, and became the name of my reptile shifter back then.
Tempest gets lost going down memory lane.

Wow. You're almost as bad as me... I pick most of my names for very obscure, yet meaningful reasons. For instance... Tweedy, was my pledge name in my fraternity in college... Sigma Alpha Mu... better known as the Sammies. Hence Sammie, my elf rogue. I lived for 2 years in the capital city of North Dakota.... Bismarck. Two of my alts are also spin-offs from Calvin... Nivlac and Hobbez.
Gurgie, Doli, Dorath, Smoit, Magg, Gwydion... all taken from the Black Cauldron series. Then there's some of my really deep, meaningful names. Like DarthVader. DarthMaul. Palpatine. Bombad. *ponder* Not quite sure where I got those.
And I got a bunch of names from a very old, ancient text, that I'm sure none of you have ever heard of. Fladnag (gandalF), Gorbag, Balrog, Mordor, Baggins... And I got another name from another obscure series.... JonSnow.
Then I hit a phase where I really put some time and consideration into my alt names. I wanted them to be instantly recognizable for what they were. Like my elf ranger, TreeHugger... and my helf cleric, Knigglet.... and my helf fighter, Radle (eldaR)... Woodfag (helf rogue) Wussmage (helf mage) Poke (human fighter (hey, he likes to poke things to death, ok?) Spankster (human rogue, ditto Poke)... and my elf cleric is really more of a reflection of my true inner self...... Schmuck.
The only name I really can't figure out why I picked, and what its inner meaning is..... not for the life of me... is my one and only little shapeshifter alt...... It's really starting to bug me, cuz I can't figure out where I got the name. I must've been pretty wasted when I made it. Hey, maybe some of you can help me out with it....... his name, is "Piggy".....

Nah, I don't hate you! I actually considered creating an alt named Piggbawca just for you! And another I thought about making was Hawg. But I guess I'll leave the creation of those to you to add to your collection of alts.
I still don't see how you find the time to play them enough not to forget about them. =)

Cortana - A.I. from the Halo series.
Mordecai - The Bible (Old Testament)... The movie "One Night With The King" protrays Mordy teh scribe.
Kdragyn - My first character ever on AA, who was a half-elf ranger. His name came from IRC (which I idled on before I was shown AA). I saw a guy named Mrdragon, and I played around with letters and copied the guy to piss him off. Aurac was my second character ever, and I initially made Aurac to multiplay with Kdragyn (I hadn't learned the rules against this yet), and Obiwan gave me a stern talking to. Aurac was a human mage then.

Some of mine have meaning, some don't: Gromlakh: Orc rogue/pseudo-inactive wizzie apprentice. I think I got it by putting my real name into one of those "race name translator" thingies until I saw something that sounded cool for an orc. Thrain: Dwarf fighter. Same as Grommy, but using a dwarf "translator". Albeleo: Human necro. Albeleo was an evil puppet master/sorcerer in Ogre Battle: March of the Black Queen. Thordain: Dwarf cleric. It's the most powerful thunder spell in Dragon Quest III (calling down the wrath of the gods). Imhotep: Human perm mage. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Imhotep, and I believe the name was also used for the Mummy in the original movie. Aiwendil: Orc ranger. That's the elven name of Radagast the Brown. Ironic that I made him an orc...*twiddle* Craptacular: Shifter. Really, I shouldn't have to explain further. Ramses: Helf necro, obvious. Pompey: Elf mage, according to my character notes. I completely forgot I even had this character, and I can't for the life of me think of how I came up with the name. Grima: Orc rogue I made for PK. Obviously named after Wormtongue. The fact that I forgot about this character as well should tell you how successful my short foray into PK was. Arnok: Human pallywank. No clue.
