Stacking, is when you have your mud client (zmud, gmud, pueblo, tintin, etc) perform multiple commands when you push one button. A simple stack, using Zmud as an example, is when you type: get bag from pack; put all ear in bag; put bag in pack; taunt mrkrinkle and hit enter.... the semi-colons will send all four commands to the mud in one shot. You've actually typed all of the commands in.... but hitting enter once makes them all go through to the mud at once, and execute at the same time. You could, in theory, have hundreds of commands typed in and separated by semi-colons, and hit enter once and watch the screen scroll. That's a basic stack. A "macro" is another kind of stack. That's when you have a single alias, function key (F4, F8, etc) or clickable button set up to perform multiple actions. For example, if you type "ear" and hit enter, your client automatically sends your take earbag from pack, put ear in pack, put bag in pack stack to the mud. Or if you hit the "F4" key, it does a series of commands to skin, gut, carve corpse, put all pelt in sack, salt meat, put meat in sack 2, pet Fido..... A button is a clickable button on the top of the screen, that if you click, it sends a stack of commands to the mud. All of these things basically perform multiple actions with one press/click of a key/button. And they're all pretty much illegal. Of course, law rarely prosecutes offenders, because most of the stacked commands are just people performing innocent actions as lazily as they can.... When they really hammer you is when you're blatantly stacking things, to give you an advantage in playing. Like in SK or bounty hunting, when the player has a command that unwields weapon, wield bow, nock arrow, shoot opponent, unwield bow, throw hunga-munga at opponent, wield weapon..... that allows them to get 7 actions in one round, that they normally wouldn't be able to get by typing out those 7 aliases....... most GOOD pkers have those actions set as aliases 1,2,3,4,5,6,7..... and hammer those keys as quickly as they can. But they can make mistakes, and miss a round or two.... which can result in getting killed, or not killing their opponent. It's much easier to just hit F1.... F1.... F1...... then brag about how amazing a PKer they are. I've actually had a basher, who shall remain unnamed (Let's call him Lemonhead ), who was bashing for one of my unknown alts on a few different occasions, not even pay attention to the screen because his stacks and triggers and tick timers were set up so well. He was following me, with a dotimes 100 assist tank alias running. He had a "tick timer" set to send "breakdo; dotimes 100 assist tank" every 99 rounds. Then he had a trigger, so that when he saw "You rush over to assist tank in combat" or whatever the exact message is, he had a stack set up to "drop all potion, drop all meat, drop all knigget, drop all berry, drop all chicker". Then when he saw "Your party just killed " ..... he had another stack set up to "get all potion, get all meat, get all food, get all berry, get all chicker." I finally got frustrated with him not responding to questions I asked, or getting extra eq that the other basher couldn't carry, etc.... so I stopped the party until he responded... he said "Sorry, man... I'm playing PS2 with my brother, and I've got everything tick timered, triggered and stacked.... just send me a tell if you need anything, and when I take a break from PS2, I'll answer ya." *roll* Needless to say, I stopped takin him as a basher. I received a phone call last night from a gentleman regarding stacking. What bothered me was not the topic, of which I have no knowledge, but rather the incessant "oinking" sounds this man made into the phone. Granted, he would apologize afterwards, but it still got to me after awhile. If any of you should receive a call from this unnamed "oinker", please call 1-888-ILUVPIG as his mommy is looking for him.

Thanks for the great info on stacking.
I setting up an alias in the game considered a stack as well? Or is it only considered a stack if all the commands are sent at the same time?

As far as aliases chains are made with a , (comma) separator - as said in the mud help file, then it's not stacking, infact those commands will be sent off one per round
lame ex: alias smk do get parkraz from sack, fill pipe, light pipe, put parkraz in sack
so you just enter smk to perform all the refill and smoke, but it will take 4 rounds to complete, so no stacking trouble.
PS: if you don'thave a pipe, parkraz and a sack, that will just mean 4 rounds of 'what?' replies from the mudserver... *wink*
