Enter cave, kill two Gargoyles, w, search floor, snap wire, n, w, n, open w, n, kill guard, get peg, open e, e, search tapestry, insert peg into hole, down, kill Archpriest.
Get the "bands of gold" to improve the power of the staff of azakath:
from archpriest, up, s, e, open e, kill guard, open n, n, e, down, 2s, e, open s, s, take cup, fill cup, n, w, s, w, search, open n, n, take plate, fill plate, s, e, s, pour water on plate, s, u, open coffin, kill spectre, take bands. To get out, enter coffin, search dust, open d, d, break plank, out.

I have been usin this Staff quite much for my Necro on AA, but I have still not figured out what the bands REALY do that the first band adds up to staff skill (+5 instead of basic +3), I guess it does the staff more powerful with spells... Are there a limit of how many bands you can put on? And does "raise staff" consume the bands?

ok, so you managed to get your hands on the staff of azakath. now, what classes can wield it? at what levels? what str? and after you put the bands on, what classes then? after how many? this would be a good question for ghanimX

the staff skill bonus i _THINK_ is only when you are wielding it in both hands, i could be wrong here.
the number of bands on it SUPPOSEDLY raises the difficulty and weight of it. i haven't tested the weight, but with 10 bands it evaled the same for me with 1 band. the more bands you add to it. you can get it to crackling with just one band. for burning white, you need more bands and 21 intelligence.
raise staff doesn't consume the bands. think of it as an item with charges. the more damage you do with it, the more it charges up. when you raise staff, you release charges. the more it is charged, the more damage it'll do.
13 strength can wield it in both hands with no bands on it. once you put a band on it, you can only wield it one-handed. any class can use it. i'd say 60+ skill for it. tetsubo is a better staff for higher skill levels, provided you can wield it.

Azakath also requires the wielder to have 29 int/wis. No class/race/align restrictions beyond that.

I vaguely remember something saying that the more bands you had the less int+wis you needed to wield the sucker.

Regarding Azakath, anyone know the requirements to get to "Crackling" or higher?
I've had maxxed dwarf and orc necros run around with the damn thing for over an hour without raising and still couldn't get to crackling, let along any higher.

So, how do you prevent Azakath from resisting you again? What put the bands on before you wield?
Yeah, I know I know, me asking about Azakath is embarrassing.

there's an int/wis limit too, is it 22 ?
also, it was changed...perhaps in the time you were away. it doesnt work for necros the way it used to. it likes mages better.

Well I remember the resisting problem, I thought there was a work around. I'll do some more tests if/when i get the chance.

I've been using azakath a few times in the past couple weeks. I truly think it is bugged out half the time. I've used it with no bands (between 50-55 staff) and I hit pretty decently with it and it won't charge. I've used it with one band and it won't charge. at around 50-52 staff it used to give me a -1 staff skill with no bands(I think it was +1 with 1 band on it). At 54 and 55 skill it was giving me -2 staff skill with no bands, 0(I think) with 1 band. I've used it TWO times that I was able to get it to pulsating and raise it fairly regularly.
on the times that it was bugged(?), I've had spidey and/or nbc and it still wouldn't give me a charge. pretty frustrating for it to be hit or miss.. if I kill pretty decently for 30 minutes or so and it's not even humming I usually get rid of it and grab a different weapon since I assume it's just bugged.
anyone able to shed some light on what my problem might be? wait until a higher skill level? bugged? I've had a fighter eval it for me with 1 band on it and it was perfectly suited.
Human necro with 16int and 16wis.
