just posting a general reference page for rogues, erm I'm no rogue legend yet, but I'm working on it going to try and get a elf and a orc to 19 and maybe one of em to be known as a decent tank or basher, whatever works. Erm, at any rate I suppose as I go down this path I'll document the important stuff that I can, I have posted a bunch of gathered reference thus far, weapons/aliases/bounty hiding/and a whole lot more. check it out link it to your site whatever is good. thx.

elf rogue isn't either a tank or a basher, most definitly not a basher, mebbe a handicaped tank. orc rogue is good tank, and good basher too if you know what to do and what weapon to use. elf rogue is just a thief. human rogue is good too for tanking shit. but i like dumb orc tanking and outclaiming bashers myself...

actually, to update, I updated the page, I've given up on elf rogue, despite how fun it'd sound to play, its actual use in level 19, I just see stealing getting boring so I got up a orc rogue. at any rate, alot of the info has been posted before I'm tried to start out with a good base to work from. If you have any topics you'd like to see just send me a mudmail or whatever and I'll see what I can do, or post em here and make me look dumb. whatever works.

decided to remake the page, with original content, or atleast edited content thats updated. decided to switch to an orc rogue, and the page won't focus on elf rogues anymore, since there aren't a whole group of elf rogues roaming around the mud looking for a reference site. Anyways hope this will be a bit better.
Actual question of post, does anyone know when alert combat actually becomes worth the sp? cuz I know at the low midlevels its not worth the sp it drains. Unless you enjoy reflecting light in your opponent's eyes.

You'd be suprised. I've got an Elf Rogue, and they *can* make very good bashers. Just give 'em a Katana, or Blade of Sethic, or even a Curved Black Scimitar or Falchion if they have a good Cblade skill... if they have a good Longsword skill, Vorpal Blade is beautiful. Trip is a beautiful thing, after all. For Tanks, if you get Sspawn and Cblade, You've got 17 Str and *21* dex, although you still have that pitiful con stat... Solo, though, they pretty much suck, because they can either do loads of damage but get smashed like hell with Cblade (Except Katana, which parries well), or they can take little damage with a VFR, but do dick for damage.
Summary: Mediocre (at best) Tanks with plenty of unique help, but damn good bashers if you know how. (Think Trip)

Although trip is str + dex, which again gives the advantage to Orcs. I still like the idea of elf rogues a lot (at least before they totally nerfed theft all to hell), but with the new theft changes I can't really see myself playing one. I really wonder what the hell the wizzes are thinking sometimes, if ppl can't remember to put their stuff in packs (not to mention silver amulet and pocket worm), then they really deserve to be stolen from, don't they? The way things are now they might as well just take thievery out of the game altogether. I haven't had any of my chars stolen from in a long while, which is sad, making the game easier is often the same as making it less exciting

I agree. My character is now almost 9 playing days old and I have yet to be stolen from. What exactly did they do to the theft ability to essentially get rid of it?

Theft used to be much easier to get away with. Now you can hardly steal anything. "They don't have so much in their inventory that they wouldn't notice you stealing that." Bullshit.
On another note, elf rogues can be good, you just have to know how to use them. Although 138 hps is the suck, 19 dex makes a mean tank.

Several years ago, I had an elf rogue by the name of Moriyokiri. Moriyokiri had a respectable rapier skill of 85+ and a nice MMS skill of 90+. I'd log in, grab a vfr, stone dagger, vfr, knight's pack with smokes and medicinals, and a provision sack with kniggets. On a normal night, I'd have already been asked by Zurich, Khane, Calvin, Ktulu, Pillar, Nanji or Druenarrii to bash by the time I had accumulated all the previously listed. Why? Fighter bashers love hitting opponents that fight on their backs.
On theft's aspect, I could steal anything I wanted. Thothamon's pipe? Mine. Elf paladin's earbag? Mine. Scythe fighter's fire gem? Mine. Scythe rogues secondary weapon? Mine. My craziest lift was Thothamon's pipe while he wore spidey and nbc (23 int!). And of course, the ease of which I could lift something became an obsession, and it got me in trouble alot...
I could fend for myself on bounties. My second bounty ever (before I became interested in pk), Aram was on and bountied too. Both being Ravens, we couldn't kill each other, so Aram decided to use me as a living shield by acting like he'd help me learn how to run a bounty. Lonewolf and Narstil were after him, which I didn't know and Aram figured using me as bait, he'd be able to pick one of them off while distracted by me. Well, they came and attacked me, but I fought them off, somehow don't ask how, and Aram realized I wasn't a typical Raven lowbie. So we hunted them, and killed Narstil and sent Lonewolf to sit at the Scythe board for the remainder of his log in.
All I can say is DEX, DEX, DEX. Dex is so important. Lack of HPs is manageable. If you can handle the constant HP healing efficiently, elf rogue is very deadly.
Elf rogues of the past who've been scary, scary killers. Maninthebox, Corvin, Zhentarim (also MITB), and Whatsit. I'm sure there's more, but those are one's I've encountered and either died or barely escaped.

I know str and dex both affect tripping, which affects it more and by how much?

IMO str is more important than dex, I've maxxed both elf/dwarf rogues and I find that a dwarf *especially with sspawn* can trip bigger things than an elf, just less often. Like low guards and stuff elves would trip every time, unlikes dwarves, but on things like massive stone giant/red eyed elf/etc the dwarf would get more trips than the elf, I really think that it's all rolled against the thing your trippings str/dex, so it's really hard to say which affects it more

i've always been interested in seeing how a maxxed dwarf rogue would do while tanking. i've started numerous alts along this path, only to give up on the project. what have been the best aspects of the dwarf? the worst? (besides the tripping)
