I voted magic primarily based on my experiences with the Necro class. While being extremely limited compared to most of you, I've noticed this about magic resis, when using liches.
Tossing a black robe on my lich usually saved at least 1 salve per area, if not more. This was more evident in npcs that used magic (Academy ie diam and awan).
On the flip side the induction of fire orb showing that a weapon with a element based damage can be so powerful, makes me question my vote. Alas I'll stick with magic. I am curious how some of the most powerplayers will vote.
*Being at work sucks, so I'll probably be posting here a lot more in the near future.*

The times I am really worried about my resistances are when I go up against razar, chaos warrior, holocaust spirit, and overlord (evil wizard in burnham would be tossed into this group, but I haven't really killed him since being a pally 8-10 years ago) so fire is most important for me. I'm not even sure what magic resistance really affects. Does it reduce Illarin's acid arrow attacks? I doubt it would do anything to reduce Jush's wrath attacks while fire does have a pull since some of the messages deal with fire.
If I have a choice between spc or magic surcoat, I'd go with spc. I even like gammy over mon. However, even as a rogue I like to sport Wigwog skin for the resistances.

Magic is most important for me because I can completely stop magic damage on some kills by getting 100+ (easy), but fire/cold seems more like armour where it's never perfect (I've had them both to 200+ with pray fire, garnet ring, surcoat, wiggy, star armour and maybe something else I forgot) but reduces damage. If you are soloing you can be more choosy about the magic kills and kill the ones who can't magic damage you at all.

I'd prolly go with magic because i usually do some of the tanking against magic type npcs like zarkan/sage, imam, kresh, iannis, academy, monolith etc, as I usually avoid razar and c warrior as they absolutely rape revenants (my primary undead) & me. It's a pity revenant's can't wear any armour, even cloaks. For the most part, I'd go with the better protection offered by a higer rated armour as most of the time spent killing would be against non-magic/cold/fire attacks.

i've noticed with very high 100+ in any resistance that sometimes i'll get no damage from that type of element in a spell, but never in any of those occasions it was flawless, like invictus says, taht 100+ will get you total imunity.

Hehe! I was just making a joke about the whole tyrade last year. Everything I post on here is watched--or so I hear--so I wasn't going to comment on this subject, but I did vote. Where is that elusive Tantallon, Pillar? PM me! I must know! --Aurac

(Refresh my memory of our conversation?) Like Froggy said, you can stop all magic with 100 resist, but not the other types. Tempest Invictus IX

want me to say it again? ok, you told me with 100+ magic you get no magic damage. i'm telling you that while you maybe have read wizard files, i have had 100+ in magic and gotten magic damage over it, even tho it sometimes blocks all or almost all damage it's not always, same happened to me wtih razar, with 70+80 fire res i got a couple of fires from abyss that were 20-30 damage and a couple that were completely blocked also, tho very rare. now what i'm saying is, the npc was using magic, i had magic over 100, and i had damage, i dunno if it had some sort of magic+fire+cold combo in the attack but it seemed just magic at the time, and on occasion it would block all, or just a bit randomly.
