*xlaugh* Actually, that isn't too far from the truth... a bunch of us were wondering how the hell you got such high skills, with such little game knowledge. *peer* But... you were decent speed at getting eq and selling, or doing heals... and you were using weapons that at least hit hard... so I figured you had potential. Good to see I was right! Once we got some of the rough edges shaved off, and you got used to going mach III all the time... you turned out ok. *grin* And me??? Irritable?? Impatient?? ?? UNPLEASANT!!!?? ?? ?? *gasp* Say it ain't so!!! and fyi... I wasn't so annoyed at being stuck at 1699 for so long... I was annoyed that around 1685 or so, I got a new job, and had --- zero --- time to play, while certain other fighters had all the time in the world, and ended up blowing me out of the water in the home stretch.

*peer* Well... this is Chen's "My tanks" thread, so.... But yeah... aisling is a pretty good tank. And josh got pretty good before he decided that partying, work, and chicks were more important than AA. *gasp* (And can I just say how funny it is that a fighter got on the list of tanks? *snicker*)

so if chen says obesea is the proof that there are no bad tanks, and that there are only good tanks, and better than that, that means good tank is the bottom of your scale and obessa's down there?

Tanks I've bashed for:
note that i hardly ever bash, so my knowledge in this area is pretty limited, but i do know a crap tank when i see one:
*First Tier* The serious tanks who tank for the numbers
Palpatine
Easily the best tank of big parties I've had in recent times, extensive knowledge of the mud with great ability to change plans on the spot and improvise - which I see as very important in a top notch tank. Always knows about the most likely ways things can go wrong in an area and covers for that, and consistently very fast as long as the arthritis doesn't flare up. If you don't see 600k/hr in a 4 man with him, he's on an off day.
The downside is that without Ichor, permed ar and all the rest of it, his numbers seem to take a brutal hit.
Valdora
Very similar to Palpatine, with more experience at smaller parties and can't seem to go as fast with more bashers. Her knowledge of the mud is more confined and she's not as good at improvising. That being said, she can still easily pull 400k/hr+ in a 2 man party with just radiant armour. Sometimes goes on adrenaline rush and loses her rhythm.
Forbidden
A rarely mentioned tank because he's at boarding school most of the year without internet access. His technical tanking skills are extremely good, those fingers glide over his keyboard flawlessly (unless he uses triggers?). His knowledge of the mud is limited, but still enough to pull out 700k/hr parties. Can pull those numbers with any equipment. With a bit more exploration, he could easily be better than the above 2 tanks and myself.
Mexor
Very similar to Forbidden, but just a few steps behind.
Capet
Comparing Capet and Forbidden, I'd have to say Forbidden is quite a lot better. Capet's strength was consistency, with constant 600, 700k/hr numbers. However, I didn't really detect any ability to switch gears or improvise, and he seemed extremely equipment dependent. This extended not only to his own equipment, but he needed his bashers all to be wielding top notch weapons to do well.
Machine's various attempts at tanking
Josh was a pretty solid tank, but he got irritated very easily and once that happened, everything went south. Didn't have the hundreds of hours of experience that the above tanks all had, so the parties didn't run quite as smoothly, but he could still get each basher more than 150k/hr.
Lunger, Pillar, Drue, Ivanhood, Nanji, Ktulu, etc etc
Never did bash for this lot.
*Second Tier* those who tank for fun
Bazhi
It's obvious that Bazhi likes safety, and never does push the numbers. His relaxed style is quite fun to just lay back and take it easy for a few hours of skilling with. He doesn't order the bashers around, lets them wield whatever they like, and still comes out with at least 100k/hr for each of them. Can't really compare him to the above tanks because he never actually _tries_ to beat those numbers.
Chun
Very fun guy to run around with. His knowledge of directions are very limited, and he's also very cautious about losing 1/3 of his xp in one hit, not to mention a size on his wolf. This leads to fairly average numbers, but still easily double your average knigget's, and he's more fun too.
Dooku's cleric, and Dooku himself
Dooku tanking as his mage was a bit of fun, but obviously the inherent limitations never got the parties going.
His philosophy of not repeating areas unless he _had_ to as his cleric always limited his numbers, and he liked to tackle any area in his way, so that's why i put him in the 'not trying' category. His extensive knowledge of the mud led to very solid tanking skills when it came to zooming about the landscape.
Tanus' various characters
I put him in the 'not trying' category because his connection is atrocious and randomly locks him up every 5 minutes, precluding any hope of reaching the big figures. However, in those short bursts of non-lag, he's as fast as any, and his extensive bashing experience obviously hasn't done any harm with his tanking expertise.

haha, what tanus means to say is that if to chen, there's only good and better tanks. and he calls odessa a 'good' tank. that means odessa is one of the lousiest of his tanks... *peer*

Dammit...you retards are hijacking my post! Back to the topic... I think that Lanstro's post points out quite clearly the difference between him and I in terms of playstyle and game knowledge. I'll point out the obvious just to make an emphasis...Lanstro is one of the best players on AA. I'm not. So Lanstro, correct me if I'm wrong. The tanks that you list are those that you would consider bashing for because they are among those who can make AA fun for you. Given a choice of bashing for anyone else, you'd probably tank or not play at all. The same is probably true for Valdora and Tanus. As for me, my standards in a tank are a lot lower. For me to have fun, no one dies and I get skills. Yes, it's completely selfish. And I believe that for the risk/reward ratio to be equal among the tank and bashers is unfair. But I justify this attitude by thinking to myself that when someone tanks, it's because tanking is most fun for them. So it all comes down to how much fun we have. Yes, I have more fun bashing for certain players than others but it doesn't make anyone bad. And it's not fun bashing for Calvin when every other sentence on the pline is an insult about you selling a bola. <*** SITH ***> Calvin: YOU <*** SITH ***> You've just killed Bazhi's dragon. <*** SITH ***> Calvin: JUST <*** SITH ***> You've just killed wyvern. <*** SITH ***> Calvin: SOLD <*** SITH ***> You've just killed general. <*** SITH ***> Calvin: THE <*** SITH ***> You've just killed smiling fairy dragon. <*** SITH ***> Calvin: FUCKING <*** SITH ***> You've just killed the fairy ring queen. <*** SITH ***> Calvin: BOLA!!!!!!!!! Rinse and repeat. But once we reach silvery green dragon, he'll usually rant about how much he hates it and the honour guard until I throw a boomer at wyrdwoman.
