excluding adventurers and furries.
before any of the trolls say it: yes we all know that it is the player not the class that makes something successful.

out of the above I only have an elf mage and elf mages make exp nicely so it aint that. at a guess dwarf mage wouldn't get much exp until they got high skillage.

elf cleric popular already? i'd say it's a lot easier to make xp as that character than an elf rogue

Hmmm... Looking at each of the choices.
Elf rogue. Shit tank, shit basher. UNLESS you factor in certain necessary eq items. Elf rogue gets shadowspawn, bumps str from 13 to 15. Then get gilian, for +2 con. Now all of a sudden, you have a rogue with 15 str, 19 dex, 18 int, 14 con, and 13 wis. Throw in star armour and trimmings, and I'd say you have a pretty damn decent tank. (Speaking from experience, a VERY damn good tank.) Then you can go the other route, and work your 2hs up (see Footie), and throw in shadowspawn. Hello, 19 str, 19 dex.... not the best for tanking, granted, but doable. But... bashing? Hi. Trip everything. Stab everything. Hit pretty damn hard (relatively speaking) and not miss much.
Half elf rogue. Ditto, ditto, ditto. Stats aren't quite as good, but you end up with about the same result, minus some of the dex.
Elf mage? Methinks not. Great soloers, versatile, alters can haste the living shit outta bashers and perm stuff, conj can cast the most powerful, cheapest AAs out there, and a lot of em... *shrug*
Half elf mage. Uh. Yeah. Good alterers, haste mage, can do perms with no ints, can wield tetsubo with str spell (which makes em a hell of a lot more usefull as bashers)... Loses a couple dex points, so the AA conj mage thing doesn't quite work as well as with elfies. Eh...
Elf cleric. *think* Yeah. Doable to tank. Kind of. Useless as a basher. I haven't seen anyone work up 2hs yet to give elvie a whirl... but I'm mainly thinking, "Why bother?". Bleh...
Half elf cleric. Shit basher, but can fix you like crazy, and do halfass damage. Not quite as useless as elfie cleric. Sorta ok as a tank. (I used to make decent 400k/hr runs with 3 bashers if I had good eq with my helf cleric Knigglet.) Eh...
Helf Ranger. Gigantic Wolves. High Wis. High Woodcraft. Gigantic wolves. Can wield crescent. Oh. Did I mention that they're the only class that gets Gigantic Wolves? (You didn't put elf ranger on here, but I'm thinking that it was because that would've been such a no-contest that the survey would just end up with all the votes on it, and nothing on the rest of the choices.)
Half Elf fighter. Hmm. Half elf fighter, is like a human fighter... with 2 less str and 2 less con than a human fighter. So, they skill a little faster than humans, and hit a little softer, and get the snot kicked out of them a little faster. *ponder* Right. Oh. Elvie. Yeah. With elvie, they're decent. For bashing, it's like a dwarf with an extra dex point. Woo. Otherwise, pretty much worthless. Bleh...
Dwarf Mage. *think* Alter mageling all the way, baby. Shit dex, so conj is useless. Ditto iovoc. Dwarf mage with defend none, a tetty, all the alter spells cast, MIGHT make a halfway usefull tank, and a pretty decent basher. Can't cast as many hastes... but if you get the staff skill up high enough, could be usefull. Bleh...
If I had to pick between the "Blehs"... based on my experience raising em all to 1mill exp... I'd throw my vote in on the elf cleric bandwagon.

the reason you see no rangers or necros in there is because of pets. i'd be willing to bet that a ranger of any race can stay in combat nonstop due to having the wolf to fall back on.
elf clerics have fix, which is why i don't think they're the worst. they aren't even average, but i don't think they are the worst. so at least they get double the hps than an elf normally would.

Elf cleric just doesn't sound good in the case of the low wisdom. Really, I can just see the other options as actually being able to pull decent xp. Tough choices. =)

Missing the 'dwarf rogue' in the discussion. I've got no experience with rogues, but it seems like a pretty bad combo to me. Any thoughts on this?

As a thief, maybe, but in combat they're not too bad. As Calvin would probably say, there's no reason to do dwarf rogue when you can do orc rogue. Of course, I'm transferring his comment on dwarf and orc fighters onto rogues. =)

*agree Aurac* er... am I agreeing to him agreeing with me? *think* Anyways.... yeah... orc rogues > dwarf rogues. But dwarf rogues ain't useless. They hit harder by far than the little helf/elf rogues, their trip is about the same, they can carry an assload more heals/eq... and for tanking, they have nice high con. And, you can do things with them that are kind of neat... *wiggle dwarf rogue with 78 club*
