I've been reading these boards for some time now, and Peblo (among others) type much about raising skills (on the necro boards) He seems to base skill rasing on experience. Is this implying that weapon skills come every so many exp points? Because I dont think this is true. Here's my example, I remember playing many years ago, having an elven ranger who I raised to 19th level almost exclusively fighting fuzzies. The character had horrid skills compared to someone who fights big-crazy kills (6k-9k) of the same level. So my point is, it seems skill raising is based on something other than exp. Another point worth mentioning is that my current ranger skills every other time fighting f. queen and f. dragon (is that 10k exp combined?) but if i work the fields for an hour pelting i can get the same amount of exp and never skill. Comments?

I believe it's the experience difference... where if you hit something worth a lot of experience, your skill will go up faster than say if you skill against a butterfly.
That's not to say there's more to it...
Anyway, it's definitely not "so many exp points", regardless of what it is.

i'm just pointin out how long it's taken to get to that and that skill i'm not sayin it takes "that amout" of exp
but i kill all from 300 exp npcs to 9ks and it seem to be a pattern in it... but hey that's me

exp isn't related at all to skilling. however, the only method players can measure time between skills is exp. thus why you see people posting how much exp/skill.

The way that I think the skilling system works is that each class has a weight assigned to each skill type. Fighters prolly have the biggest weight assigned to each skill, with something like necros have their biggest weights assigned to Staff and Knife skill. Now each time you hit an npc there is prolly a formula which calculates some number. Each time you hit an NPC this number that's generated goes towards your score in that skill. So say you get a score of 10 then you go to a skill of 1. Then say your score is at 600 which happens to be a skill of 50. Each time you hit something a formula works out how many points to add to your score based on: .(your level - your enemies level), your skill in a particular weapon, the weapon you are using, your class and the weight assigned to your type of skill.
End of waffle...

just for the record i was not singling Peblo out. i was merely uing him as an example. i in no way meant that his system of "skill raising determination" was flawed. i simply started this thread becuz i think theres something more to it. i did not mean for Peblo to defend himself, i was only mentioning him to "prove" i was reading the messege boards. no offense intended.

i think that the abyss is thinkin in the right direction about skillins... sounds logic... but hey.. aa aren't logic.. hehe
the pelt exp is useful when u are doin a hoh run as a ranger... it's based on the totall exp u gain during that time not only the exp u get from killin the different npcs
so much of the exp between the skills u can take away beause that's npc of the npc when it dies and that's not boostin skills i would think, skills are based on your hits

Before Skyre apologizes again, I think she/he meant killing little forest fuzzies for pelts to make collars, not the act of making thing from the pelts. Aka, they got skills every other time they killed the fairy dragon/queen set, but could kill every little critter in star caves and harrke without seeing a single skill raise. (and by the way, I'm pretty sure there's no need to apologize for offending someone on these boards. Everyone here has pretty thick skins. Otherwise, they woulda kicked me off the boards ages ago. (And don't reply to this with "Sorry!" *grin*))
