With all of the uniques and fancy stuff perhaps something a little less amazing is in order.
As a new player I wonder where to get some stuff to get equipped as a cleric.
Fine Platemail seems to be an obvious one but perhaps it isn't feasable given my level.
As a level 12 cleric what equipment/weapons (I use club) would be fair to say I can get solo. And where could I find this stuff?

Level 1-4 -- You don't need armour.
Level 5-9 -- Use ranger-made armour. Heavy body, light body, neck, head, arms and legs is all you need. Cheap as hell, light as hell, and has a neat little trick to it. Bless it, let the bless glow fade. Rebless it. now you've got a set of adq armour. For this level, that's good. If you've got a cleric bud, keep getting it reblessed constantly to keep a "fine" eval. Not too shabby.
Level 10-15 -- If you're not tanking for L17-19's by L14, then you still won't need super tank armour. Stick with patchwork armour. Some ppl like radiant/bcrown/turkey robe. I like runed breastplate, turkey robe, golden collar, steel bracers, chainmail leggings, and a blackcrown. Get all that blessed and you've got yourself "splendid" protection everywhere cept your hands and feet for the weight of 10. As opposed to a fine platemail weighin 8, leaving light body and head unprotected.
L16+ -- Armour of Gaius, Star Armour, The dragon platemail. Of course these are going to be ideal choices. But, guess what. That patchwork set I listed for L10-15 still works wonders. Just grab steel mesh gloves and some expedition boots, get 'em blessed and VIOLA! For 12 weight you've got splendid full body protection.
Misc armours -- Leather sheath (weightless). Golden amulet (stack blessable). Zarkan ring or garnet ring (stack blessable). Permed mage armours are nice, too.

Way back in the day, Bleys would kill Linnhe just for those earrings. He never knew what they did, just assumed they gave some kind of magical protection like a golden amulet. People saw it, and copied it. Soon most active Scythe tanks wore earrings. But still, nobody knew what they did.
Guess what. I know what they do. They make you impossible to disarm, much like when a fighter tries to disarm Linnhe they get a message saying "Linnhe isn't wielding a weapon you can disarm!". Doesn't protect against Glock or sage though.
So, other than not being disarmable, you get nothing more than minor magical protection, just like you get from a random thunt trinket all for the weight of 1.
Not worth it, imo. Not at all.

Why isn't it worth it? 1 bottle worth of weight is hardly anything, and all protection helps.

If you'd rather carry some minor protection earrings, rather then another potion, packet of smokes, or food item, more power to you.

Machine is right. Unless an item is provides significant added benefit, the tank's equipment should be as light as possible.
Significant added benefit includes items that you need to tank certain monsters.
As a rule you should try to carry as many non food heals as possible. This is so you don't have to depend on the ISP connection or low attention span of the bashers.

I started tanking today with my alt Juggernaut. Now that I have 16 str (still not maxxed, luv) I carry all potions, all alcohol, all smokeables, and I try to get as many foods as possible.
While using AoG/HoH I was able to carry 9 potions, 3 crutches, 4 tabaqs, and 5-6 kniggets. In my party-idea, I want to carry all the heals asap, so the heal basher can start taking eq, making pit stops less often, thus increasing xp/hr. Just my outlook on it, though.

Just from the original post, where to get a fine plate.
1). From the Stronghold guard in the Evil Overlords Stronghold (25n 10w n)
2) From King Phillip (Burnham castle, quest area).

Well earrings can be sold in armour shop so they must have intrinsic armor value, and since nearly everything likes hitting me in the head i'll continue wearing them, who's this Bleys guy?
