I now have a fighter alt. I'll be taking a lot of time reading this entire section, as I'm completely unfamiliar with fighters. I've never had one past L9 in my entire 6 years of playing on AA. They never appealed to me before because they seemed to lack the in-combat commands like mages and rogues have, but really I'd just not given it enough time to learn the class.
I'd love any advice on raising 1-19 real fast if anyone has some. Don't waste your time posting anything that's already in this section of the board, though, as I'll be reading it in depth after I write this note.
He's already 5 hours old, L7ish, with nearly 20 on three skills. Apparently I was trying to go real fast before, but I can't remember since It's been about 8 months since I've played him.

Well, I'm not wasting MY time reading the entire fighters section "in depth", so if I go over anything that's already in this section of the board.... so be it.
Now, this might not be -the- fastest way to raise a fighter to lvl 19, but it's the way I'd do it. (have done it with all my fighter alts anyways)
Screw working on multiple skills at low levels. Waste of time. You wanna hit lvl 19 as fast as orcly possible (I do hope you chose orc, if you want a really kick ass fighter. *gaze* ) stick with club. You can worry about other skills when you have maxxed dex, str, int and wis...
Weapon. Use gnarled club from whenever zhou runs out till 30-35, then heavy mace till 45-50, then warclub till 65-75, then hjem/kraky/ssm till you get bored and switch to other skills. You can sub in MOC for warclub and the end part of heavy mace... but moc is more suited for clerics, so I usually don't bother.
Eq. Lotsa people say "You don't need good eq at low levels. You can get away with almost nothing." Screw them. They're idiots. Get the BEST eq you can carry, and still carry a weap. Turkey robe, radiant armour (You can bribe a friend to kill for one, or offer some stranger money to get you one... then get a nice cleric to bless em a few times.) Golden collar blessed. Screw boots/gloves for now. Blackcrown/stone helmet, or spangenhelm cuz it's light. Why the heavy duty eq? Cuz at lvl 5 with that junk (whatever you can carry of it anyways) you can stand toe to toe with the spirits and zombies in the haunted ship and tickle em to death before you have to run. That means you kill more nuts before you have to waste 5 minutes healing in the bedrom. Efficiency. You can kill stuff with good armour that would normally kick your booty.
Kills. Under 10, ghost ship, haunted mansion, ghost ship, dalair, ghost ship, fairy ring, and oh yeah... ghost ship. When you get closer to lvl 10, try doing the tomb of gralain ghosts, the zombies in riog area, sentrys (NOT BRIGANDS) in zorgon fort... and any other low lvl npcs with no armour, and preferably no weapons that you can think of. After 10, stick to the above mentioned kills, but try adding in the occasional 3-6k if you think you can handle it. Don't try doing npcs that you know hit hard, or have good armour, cuz you'll get your butt handed to you. Think of the kills that you breeze through in a party at level 19... the ones that don't hit hard, die quick, yet still have a decent exp level. After lvl 10, if you want to try taking down something bigger, like the Wigwog, go for it. Just be prepared for it to take forever, and don't get mad if you're healing outside the room and a party comes in and whacks it. You'll still get your percentage of exp from the damage you did to it. If you can manage to get a good tank to party with, you're home free. Hang on, bash hard, work the eq getting and selling, and heal droppage. (You can also try the tag for skills and exp thing... but I find it's just as easy, and sometimes more fun, to do it by yourself. Especially with a fighter using club, cuz your skills will fly and you'll be doing real damage in no time.
Heals. Try not to waste money on heals. Use the bedroom as much as possible. When you're working on the bigger stuff, try to snag all the free heals you can. Berrys, cake, ham, carrots, whatever you can get your hands on. Screw a pipe and tobacco at low levels too, because they weigh too darn much. Royal Select cigars from puffy, gum from the candy store. Get the cigars from the box, put em in your sack. Weightless. Get the gum from packs, unwrap em, stick em in your sack. Yep, weightless. The two of em together are almost as good as parkraz/tabaq. When you hit lvl 10, you can start using booze. Again, try to get the free nuts. *cough*sunsets*cough* If not, splurge on a few chickers, whiskeys, or sunsets. They'll help out bigtime. I'd advise against using potions, unless you have a rich friend that's donated to your bank account. If money is no object, use whatever heals you want! If you don't have a fairy godmother... then the whole idea is getting the exp as cheaply as you can in the beginning, so when you hit the tough levels (10-13), you can afford better eq and heals.
Oh... and use the normal fast advancing tricks. Beast of balan. 5-800 coins, 1000-1200 exp a pop, 20 seconds to kill, can do at lvl 1. (There's other tricks out there, but I'm not gift-wrapping those yet... if you know em, you know em... if not, *grin* sucks to be you!)
Annnnnyways. That's how I'd do a fighter alt. Everyone's different though, so feel free to post your methods too. (And if ya got questions, ask!)

Calvin's version is a good one, for a someone who likes to rely on himself/herself.
Here's the efficient(my) version. Kill balan/cx until you get 15k gold. Then raise club to 15 killing fuzzies using zhou. At this point you need to coordinate 2 events.
1) shout to buy a perm es from a mage and grab moc, warlcub and hjem and find a party to tag along. Remember to get use zhou before you get the perm es.
2) Then mention you are an alt of or some other high level but not too famous player, Raptor or some such. You can't use machine, calvin or the truly famous powerplayers cause their friends could be among the players in the party and will start calling you names like josh, rich, john, etc or some other homo sounding name and unless you're in their little private ass kissing club, you'll be found out.
At this point they'll think you're good so they'll let you in. You may want to mention you're on telnet to compensate for being slow (if you're not a real powerplayer). You'll be able to pick up skills and levels fairly quickly if you're not a complete moron (a regular moron is all you'll need to be a competent basher nowadays with dotimes assist/bind). 2-3 hrs of solid partying/tagging gets you to just about 55-60 base skill as I recall.
Hey, it worked for me.

Yeah yeah... any vague references to things you might be able to do in a quest related area that are related to the quest yet not specifically giving any directions to complete such quest, or any vague reference thereto, have now been removed from said previously mentioned post-type-thing. *tongue Pillar*

Wanna kickass way to raise skills quick? It takes having a mage friend, and a ficer smith friend (or bribeable one, anyways). Get your skill to 15 using zhou. Have ficer friend make you a vfine *weapontype* of mastery. Go to Zhou, with another normal *weapontype*, and train. Have said mageling there to cast and perm a big ES on you, while you're wielding the normal weap. Then have mageling follow you around, permahasting the shit out of you while using the weap of mastery. That should be at least +15-20 from the ES, 15 from natural skill, and +30-48 from the mastery... which bumps your skill to a minimum of 60, while hasted, while on a Zhou session. I've done this for a few friends, and gotten fighters from 9 club to like 52 during the Zhou session, and longsword from 0 to the high 40's. It costs a bit for the mageling cuz of the perms and hastes and the potions/componants, but if you've got the cash, or a nice friend, it's SO worth it.

Seriously... weapons of mastery that give +30-48 skill along with the various rings are you kidding me?? 15+48+15 for 78? Amazing.

no ring.
15: Base skill 15-20: ES 30-48: Mastery -------- 60-68 skill
if i recall, you cannot have both a wep bonus and ring bonus.

Yeah... no ring and spellforged weap skill bonus stack. Whichever you wear/wield first is the bonus you get. The spellforges for skill bonus work on multiples. Or at least they used to, but the max is still the same. For every ficer enchant or spellforge that has levels, there are 6 levels. skillfulness for example is a factor of 3.... fail = 0, shitty clumsy = 3, better clumsy =6, shitty carefully = 9, better carefully = 12, shitty skillfully = 15, good skillfull = 18..... (skillfulness and "of power" and all the rings cap at 18...) The actual number you get is random now, within the 3 point range. so you might get a good skillful, and only get +16 or +17.... And Mastery is a 6 factor.... so the max skillful bonus is +48...

I feel exactly how Aurac felt in this thread four and a half years ago. I've now been playing my old fighter off and on for the past couple who weeks, who had died several times. He's main skill is not club, but it is a very damaging weapon and is essentially max'd at around 70+. It's so easy to try and focus on lower skills just to watch them go up, but reading Calvin's post has helped me focus on the leveling that should come before the more efficient skilling later (such as Two Weapon).
These days, parties are so few and far between, and the one Tank logged in will usually have his hands too full for a tagger (also, harder to bash when the average level of a tank is 24+ and you haven't even max'd your stats).
