Just curious to the thought that if anyone has come up with a way to effectively tank as a pally and use smite in their route without sacrificing heal efficiency. It seems to reason that if this could be achieved, a paladin may just be the best tank in the game, but again, smiting must not sacrifice heal efficiency. Please lemme know all of you saintly pallys out there. Thanks for your time.

Did you think I get over 700k/hr with my pallywank tank by smiling at the npcs? *snicker* And all of us saintly pallys? *think* Show me a pally that stays saintly all the time, and I'll show you one that isn't a good tank. When I'm running a party with a pally... I hit everything. When I've got good bashers and we're doing a lot of damage, the only areas I skip are the ones with no npcs to kill. I just try to time things and kinda plan which areas I hit in which order. Like, say, I go run through dalair, then orc mt... then I'm gonna go run the southwest route. Well, I'll skip over anasazi, cuz it's got those two evil/demonic guards... and go straight to EDF. Then I'll hit Linnhe right after... which leaves me nasty/evil. Shoot up to Anasazi, hit the two warriors and the chief, then back down to Achrya and Venletta to get back to good again. WHOOOoooOOOsssshhhh!!! time for the retreat, get nasty, then drak, back to good... hit monolith, sell at drak, hit cerynax lizards on the way out, then back north again...... It's all about balancing your kills. You don't HAVE to stay good, or even nice... just as long as you get back there eventually. If your aura wears out while you're nasty... oh well, wait till you get it back to good before you put another one on. And as far as smiting..... use as much food/drink heals as you can, and avoid pots unless you have to. And when you do, get a mix. Like, buy 10 pots...... 7 murks, 3 reds. Then when you hit a hard smitable kill, you can nuke him with the reds. If you happen to be using ichor, the extra sps from all that draining will give you enough sps for about 1 smite per kill in most areas. That 1 smite per kill don't sound like alot... but that can be the same damage output as 2-3 normal rounds of combat. So you can chop off 2 rounds per kill.... that's a shitload of time over a couple hours partying. *shrug* Course, for Ichor to be worth it, you really need to be doing over 500k/hr.

*shrug* Course, for Ichor to be worth it, you really need to be doing over 500k/hr. This also holds true for haste mages. I tanked with Imhotep + Ichor and tehmachine alt Stinkfist backing me up. We did pretty good exp (I think around 200-250/hr, pretty good for my first ever haste mage session), but FUCK was I getting killed. I was quaffing every last murky Stinkfist and I could buy, then when we were both cut, I'd switch to Elfdar elixirs until we both got cut from there. I was dying for another basher to make up for Ichor's crappy protection. But Stinkfist did skill like a mofo, and I got enough study hours for acid arrow finally, so we at least walked away happy.

I generally don't do any evil/neutral aligned stuff unless it's 1-2 kills, and I have no sps. There is more than enough evil aligned crap to kill at 400k/2man. Assuming I have a decent basher binding constantly, I can generally smite every 3rd-4th kill or so. Of course, I normally save up two for decent kills.

I've been here year and travelled a bit of the country. I do not own a camera and no plans on obtaining one. I haven't a single picture since I've been here...well, except a couple of me completely trashed in some clubs.
Texas? Poor guy. I'd rather live in Togo.

Recently tanked for the first time ever, with my orc pally no less. 85 (+86 - or whatever fancy shield is) blocking (and now that I leveled last night, 87 base). I pulled pretty terrible numbers, but it was my first time so I'm not super concerned about it...
Just wanted to say that the blocking is very good, but maybe not as good as some rogues with 200+ parry *peer*. On the flip side, you block enough of the hits and if you have enough damage behind you that's less of a concern...
I had a question about turtle, actually. Is it just me, or does it take a few rounds for turtle's sps drain to start? It always feels like momentum needs to build (and although this is probably my imagination, whenever I do something like eat/drink, then that momentum is interupted). Could be paranoia. Anyway, the point is that when things are dying fast enough, I tend to find that my sps have hardly dropped, and I get to smite/harm the next evil/undead target right off the bat. But it's hurting efficiency. Should I just keep my sps down like around 60 perpetually, smiting when I reach like 120?

The first thing you should do if you plan to tank with a paladin is to run down to Arkuldash and grab a tower shield of the defender. Now you don't have to worry about smite/harm, use your sps to bash your targets instead and fight them while they're sitting down. You will hit them alot harder and more often (meaning more skills) and they won't hit you as hard. Get used to tanking at full hps. Now you need to find out which npc's are bashable and which aren't. For the most time its the same npc's that you can trip, with a few exceptions I think. Dunno if demons now are trippable, but they weren't when I used to play. I find myself using smite only on very rare occasions, mostly against non-bashable demonics like venletta, ancient red dragon and a few others.
